Jerry Wallace's 12 string long horned guitar WHY?

Have you ever seen or played one of these guitars?

If I said I resemble that guitar would you call me a lyre?

Don't know why, but I am reminded of Romeo Rose's guitar.

Maybe he had good wood and wanted to portray that in his instrument.

Looks like you could hang your laundry on it, if need be.

I'll bet that was more of a prop then it was his guitar.

I think the suit was more than sufficient for that, the guitar was completely unnecessary.

You are the Man JDC!

Did you notice how it picked up (or lost) the sunburst and lost (or picked up) the trapeze tailpiece between photos?

I remember seeing photos of that guitar on the cover of some Jerry Wallace album my mother had...the one with that song from Night Gallery...If You Leave Me Tonight I will Cry.

Even contemplated trying to build something similar.

Thanks for digging that out!

The inlays are different as well.

In the article , Scott Turner says

"I did have to ‘borrow’ it before the final sunburst finish was applied because I was asked by the director of a film titled ‘Hootenanny Hoot’ to use it in a scene in the movie."

Sounds as if it was a work in progress. Maybe the same for the inlays?

I just had to hear what it sounded like. The article said it was used in the intro to "Then He Kissed Me" by the Crystals. It's on YT (isn't everything?) if, like me, you are curious about how it sounded.

This had to be an early collaborative effort with Bose in the early stages of the "acoustic wave speaker system."
