I'm not going to buy any guitars, amps or pedals in 2013
I'm done, I've quit the GAS race. (ya right)
I'm going to see if I can go the entire 2013 and not buy myself any new guitars, amps or pedals - force myself to use what I've got and nothing more. The exceptions are - I can buy something if I know I'm going to flip it for a profit, or if I'm going to give it away. But for personal use, I'm good to go for 2013. Its just tough because I watch CL and ebay all the time and think - damn, thats a great deal. But now I've ended up with 13 guitars, 5 amps, 4 pedal boards and more... I need to force myself to ignore all those great deals and just quit the GAS race altogether. Time to put more money into savings, quit spending (er, investing) so much on this hobby. So ya I hope 2013 will be the first time in my 31 years of playing guitar that I will not have bought anything new. Hopefully I can bump this thread next year and report a success. We'll see...

Probably no amps or pedals for me, but I've only got one guitar right now, and it ain't a Tele... looking for one on the cheap, a beater would be fine. Saw a good looking Mexican Standard on CList last week, listed for $225, no case. By the time I got to him it was gone.

I'm with ya, Big Bend. I've been thinking about making this same vow, and now I'm going to try to keep it for the year. II've got too much music stuff; it's everywhere. The bottom line is that I don't need anything, but since when did that fact stop any of us from buying things? I actually went on a successful 6 month gear-buying moratorium last year, so I know I can do this...really...I think.

I said I was going to do the same thing. Only strings and picks for 2013. BUT...I'm now seeing interesting gear coming up on CL and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to resist once I get that glorious tax return check...

Good luck! I made it last year. Last guitar was a Martin 000-15M in December, 2011.
I want to get a couple things paid off so we'll see how long I last....When I see something that gives me GAS, I tell my wife, "Just cause we're broke, doesn't mean we have to act like it!"

I did pretty well last year, just one homebuilt tele* and some nice picks. And I gave away a couple guitars, so my collection actually shrank last year. I only "need" one more guitar and one more amp, and I'm in no real hurry for those, so I'll probably make it through 2013 with the gear that I have.
* those don't really count, do they?

Lord knows, I could stand to concentrate on getting all the gear I have back up to snuff... refrets, a cap job, a new speaker or two...

As I'm separating from the Mrs and having to buy a new house this year, I doubt I'll be buying much. Maybe another cheap amp if I do some more gigs.
All my money's going on the mortgage, whisky, and country music . . . the music of pain. Take her away, Hank . . .

I've been in a Less Is More phase for a while now. I spent 2012 selling off gear that I just don't use and I'm still actively trying to sell my Tiny Terror head. For 2013 I don't anticipate buying anything because the only thing I GAS for is a Bad Cat Cub which is way out of my price range.

I am sorry for the people here that will not be buying new gear this year, not by choice, but because of difficult situations in their lives. Good luck man! Try to do more playing and less whiskey drinking tho. Hang in there...

Yea, separation on my side as well.
My goal is to not buy any guitars, amps, or pedals in 2013 unless I get in a band where I can pay for them with the band proceeds (as I understand, that won't be likely so no gear this year I'm actually going to be reducing my time on Rocksmith so I can get better with the gear I do have. Carl
