Microsoft Security Essentials - new Update no good?
I had problems with two machines at home this weekend; an old XP machine and a new WIN7 machine.
Same error on both; "can not download due to network or connection problem" etc... Hit update, progress shows searching, then hits downloading and generates the error message. I did pretty much everything to solve the problem on XP and managed to get 1 download that came across dying with same message at end. but got the definitions. Got 1 clean on the WIN7, and then back to crashing on both. I get to work tonight and the guy at work is building an image and all is good but 1 download. What is that I ask; "MSE!" Anybody else noticed this or want to try it?

Just disable your MSE then try to download something. If it downloads ok with MSE disabled uninstall it and piut on Avast or another free AV.

Other downloads are fine. It is the updates (definitions) for MSE that are being problematic.

Oh I see...sidekick in North America means partner...Batman and Robin...Lone Ranger and Tonto...like that.
So...I guess those sidekicks are old for Windows users? I used to be one but made the switch to Mac almost 3 years ago...and at the risk of sounding like a sidekick...I couldn`t be happier...but people should buy what they like eh, it doesn`t make any difference to me and I don`t get PO`d at things people say about Apples I mean...honestly, I have real stuff to worry about. PC, Mac, relics, non relics...just couldn`t care any less. But hey if folks feel the need to carry on about that stuff, knock yourselves out.

Remembered later that I had updated the IE browser to IE8 on the XP machine when trying to get the thing to work, and the Windows updates through that were failing as well.

yeah, thats sounds reasonable. in my case in Japan, everything was in Japanese so it was my wife who had to deal with those problems, hasn`t happened so far after " the switch". fingers crossed and good luck.

XP is over a decade old, which is ancient in technological terms. It's about time they finally dumped support for it. Though, I don't think that's what is happening here since he's also having issues on a Win7 machine.
