Sometimes Restorations are Best Left to the Pros

A nice, little old Spanish lady took it upon herself to restore a fresco of Jesus Christ at her local church because she thought it was in dire need of repair.

Eighty-year-old Celia Gimenez of Borja, Spain, painted over a fresco completed in 1930 by Elías García Martínez — the only known work by the artist in Borja, according to the Associated Press.

The fresco done in the “Ecce Homo” (“Behold Christ”) style features Christ’s face with the crown of thorns atop his head.

Gimenez, a neighbor of the Santuario de la Misericordia Roman Catholic church where the fresco is located, noticed that the paint had started to chip away and that Jesus Christo wasn’t really looking like himself.

Being the helpful neighbor that she is, Gimenez went to the church and started painting away. It wasn’t until she stepped back that she realized she had gotten “out of hand” and called the local authorities to tell them what she had done.

If a story, a press release, a death-notice, a youtube video, or a funny picture is more than two days olds, it's probably already had at least three threads here.
