What's the most you've earned in a year?
Just curious.

Still not raising my hand. I'm a full time banjo player.

Can't we change the thread to "what's the most you've learned in a year?"

I've earned most of what they pay me. A Working Class Hero is something to be.

I'll be honest, I have no problem talking about money. I think people tend not to talk about it because of jealousy or envy. If money's not your bag, then it really doesn't matter.
Personally, the most I've ever made in a year (which was last year) was about 15,000 GBP (roughly $22,000). Of course, 15k pounds in London doesn't go nearly as far as $22k just about anywhere in the States (except New York, Marin, etc.).....but it's all about baby steps, right!

Once, in a Manhattan bar, some yuppy (this was the '80s) asked me how much I was making - like it was a normal part of any conversation. I was gobsmacked. In my circle, that question just didn't get asked, especially by a stranger.
I haven't changed my opinion since. Next someone's going to ask us to break out the tape measure... Last edited by Frontier9; December 6th, 2012 at 09:42 AM. |

If it were not for the" kindness of strangers" I would be in a box with some guitars. I worked the DC area for a number of years in college libraries; most I ever made was 18k, most years it was more like 10. Some years the bulk of that was from flipping gear.... It's tough to make a living in the current academic environment, many positions are part time/ contractural / adjunct, pay very little and have few if any benefits. You can do better with advanced degrees but unless you can find someone to pay for it it's tough to scrape up what amounts to a second yearly salary for the tuition and fees. |
