I thought I heard once that before Jimi Hendrix was well known, he was in Little Richard's band and eventually got kicked out because he kept stealing the show. Cool story if it's true. Either way, happy birthday Little Richard.

The beauty is on duty.

So many people have copied his look and sound Prince and Jimi just to name a couple and of course Jimi played in Richards band in the mid 60's.

Little Richard was influenced by this person.

Richard took his look and musical style.

Esquerita did this stuff first so as much as Little Richard says he started rock he just copied Esquerita.

I have been a huge Little Richard fan forever one of the best for sure.

That was cool , never heard of Esquerita , you can hear the influence it no doubt had on L.R. , and probably on Jerry Lee Lewis too I'm sure.

I loooooooooove Little Richard- he 's my #1 favorite 50s rocker, more than Elvis or Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee or Chuck. I just cannot fathom what people in 1956 conservative America must have thought the first time ya hey saw/ heard him. It really must have been like encountering a Martian.

Ya Esquerita is pretty much unknown but easy to hear he had a big influence on LR.

There arent many of the main guys from the 50's left Chuck Berry Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard.

I once saw LR preach about the evils of oral sex in a church. He got so graphic that some of the congregation left. He didn't get what he thought was a fair offering, so he passed the plate again...and again. That was a great night. LR cannot be equaled!
