Hard to say, what other pedals do you have?
HaHa... I like mine, it's a pretty good slightly dirty sound for warming up my very clean Fender Showman. That's all, and it works well. I've owned many pedals and its one of my all time favorites. The gain knob never gets moved farther than about half. It also make a nice pre gain boost for other more aggressive distortion pedals. Dr Zombie |

- Keep drive at no gain, or gain for leads. Depends
- All depends how you use it with single coils and humbuckies..it is not a transparent gain - Ask SRV neck position romps - should this thread be over in Pedals??

I like mine. It's at Keeley getting fixed now (I true-bypass modded it and hit a few snags), but I'm missing it. I too prefer transparent drives, however I like the warmth of the TS9, it's hard to describe. I do keep the tone past 12 O clock though so I don't lose too much highs.

I really do think this is a matter of which chip you have.
Was unhappy for years. Got mine modded by JHS, and it's unbelievable sounding now. Extremely transparent.

I happen to like almost all TS-inspired pedals, and can get almost the same sound from all of them. I used a TS-10 for years and years. Right now I'm using a Maxon OD-9. I also have a $19 TS-style pedal that I got from GC... which sounds just as good as any of them.
You know the difference you get when your guitar's volume is on 7, then you ramp to 10? That's the effect that I shoot for with the TS. I set my guitar on about 7... and then set the TS to make it sound like the guitar volume is on 10... the I A/B the two. Then when I'm on 10 on the guitar... I can get a solid natural boost. But the TS is like the Yogi Beara quote of pedals... "No one likes that pedal cause too many people use it."
