Who Went To See 'Lincoln'?

As much as I dislike politics I sat thru this movie and it was well worth it. Daniel Day Lewis owned the character of Lincoln and his performance was worth the price of admission. It is a long movie with very little action but Lewis's character gives the movie a life of it's own.

People were clapping and crying at the end. Not a movie you see without thinking about it afterwards.

I am going to see it as soon as I can. I love Steven Spielberg's work. He has artistic integrity.

I smell Academy Award for Daniel Day-Lewis.

Gee, you wouldn't think they'd just keep doing that. It'd be kinda nice if they would you know let him move off to Oz or something. I thought maybe he had a real future with Buffy, but that kinda went flat too.

Apart from that, how was the play, Mrs Lincoln?

Well, now, if Tarantino had directed the film ....

There is a new historical novel out that I started reading about this and it's all about Lincoln recovering, the hunt for the would-be assassins, and the changes in the nation because of all of it.

Got about a chapter in and something else grabbed my attention and I bailed...

I love history, love Doris Kearns Goodwin, and I am finally in the mood to see a movie .

But seeing these promo leads, I see Daniel Lewis not Lincoln.

How easily, among you history buffs, can you get used to Lewis as Lincoln?

Saw it last night. I enjoyed it very much. Lewis is excellent as Lincoln and the likeness is uncanny. The movie is long, but did not drag at all.

Not yet, but it would be hard to top Kris Kristofferson's performance in Tad.

Not a fan of Mr. Lincoln .

Can tolerate him if he is killing vampires.

I will pass on the "history" lesson .

Given the opinions you've expressed in previous posts, that does not surprise me at all.

When I saw the trailer with him shouting passionately at his cabinet, I thought Day-Lewis sounded ridiculous, but it was out of context and not representative. When I saw the film in its entirety, I thought his performance was excellent.

Overall, I thought the film was very good, but it still suffers from some Spielberg-isms that came off as unbelievable and sometimes over-the-top. Also, the screenwriter Tony Kushner's background as a playwright is all too apparent. The dialog is often way too stagey.

Well, Lincoln himself wasn't available. Actually, I thought the same going in, but that ended about 5 minutes into the show. It may be one of the greatest acting jobs of all time. You should see it. You'll be in for one heck of a surprise.
