Yes, I can tie a bowtie. I had to learn for my daughter's wedding a few months back. Why she wanted me in a bowtie and no one else I'll never understand. All the groomsmen and best man all had on regular ties.

Yeah, but don't have any now and don't feel the need. When I wear a tie now it's usually something to match a vintage suit - for special gigs or fancy wingdings of some sort.
After you figure it out it's not much different than tying a shoe.

Yup--- used to wear them decades ago when I was a bartender, and just as a hoot (because I knew how from Dad, I'd wear them as an alternative to the ol' 4-in-hand). I pulled some out last month to see if I could still tie 'em but, mistrusting myself, I tried using a cheat sheet (from L.E. of all places). I could NOT get it from the sheet.
As I was driving to work with the tie (figuring I'd take some time there trying to figure it out), I got stuck in traffic. To kill time I put the tie 'round my neck and just let instinct/habit take over while steering w/ my knees. Lo & behold, when I stopped thinking, it came back as natural as falling off a log...and w/out a mirror: Voila---

I can't tie any kind of tie.
Even my bolo ties don't look quite right. I did a wedding gig recently, and I had to ask one of the singers to help me with my dern tie. Embarrassing! |

Definitely. Real bow ties rule, clip-ons drool.
For my wedding, I insisted that I be wearing a bow tie I tied myself. The rental place said, "well, we don't rent out that kind - you have to buy it." I said, "No problem - I'll take it." Still got it today.
