So I'm playing again, after 3 years...(no Tele content)

Just thought I'd share a story that some of you can probably relate to.

I was a serious weekend warrior (bass player) in cover bands throughout the 90's and drifted away from it since about 2002 for various reasons, none of them having to do with music. I've kept up with my "non-band" gig, playing my partscaster Tele at home for fun, but haven't played much bass at all in the last 3 years. Oh, I wiggle my fingers over the same old lines I like to play to keep my basic chops up, but that's not nearly the same as playing with other musicians, especially a drummer.

I moved to Denver in December '04 but hadn't met (or tried to meet) any local musicians. I am totally into cover tunes and don't have any desire to write originals, but I haven't wanted to join a working band and have to learn 40 songs in a week. I guess I'm lazy in that respect but also feeling too old at 37 to start a band again from scratch. Despite this, I answered an ad yesterday by a guitarist into Dylan, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones, and The Who looking to "maybe" form a band but a least jam with others. I met the guy and so far, so good.

Anyway, I guess there's no real point to this post, except I had been wondering where my passion for playing live music went until I did something about it.

It looks like a classic rock cover band is forming in Denver. Any drummers out there want to learn the Exile On Main Street and Live At Leeds albums?

Good for you man. It's always good to get jammin' again. And if you're lucky enough to find a whole group of guys who are into the same things you are, so much the better. The hardest part of having a band is picking tunes that all the members like and want to play. Sounds like you're well on your way to a very fun and rewarding project.
