MiniDisc Player Questions

I've noticed a lot of students with these little 3x3x1 portable music machines. They tell me they can fit 50+ hours of music on one little minidisc.

The idea of being able to travel with so much music taking up so little space sure is attractive. What are the up- and down-sides? What should I aim for? What should I avoid? Should I bother at all? Thanks.

Um...

... it's 5 hours of music on a disc, and that's at the maximum mode. The battery can run for up to 50 hours, perhaps that's where the confusion was. And 5 hours of music on a $2 disc is still pretty good. Here's some more info here:

Hope it helps, CS

I had it all wrong.
But I am laughing at myself.
Sorry,
Mik

No problem. Except I wasted a perfectly good Johnny Carson impression... ;-) CS

But I'm still gonna check out that Sony CD Walkman that can play a CD-R/RW holding up to 490 songs (@ approx. 4 mins. each = over 32 hours!). Thanks! :-)) CS

The only drawback is....

the new models don't come with an input jack anymore. That means that it's not longer possible to record from a CD or a computer.
Check out pawn shops for a model with input jack. My father got one by Sony for 100 bucks that is in mint condition.

Mik burned up what little credibility...

...he had left.

Woops!

Chris, my apologies...YOU had it right!

I'm going to delete my original post on this subject so there's no further misleading.

Humbled, and more than a little embarassed,

Mik
