Windows Media Player - convert MWA to MP3
After listening to several clips over at Twang Central I thought I'd dig up an old CD and post some of my own tele work. I tried to upload a file to Soundclick but it says I can only upload MP3 files. Apparently when you copy from CD to your computer Windows Media Player makes the file type an MWA file type. Looks like I may need a plug in...is there a decent free plug in available?
Ive ran out of time to look for one tonight...hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. |

I use an old shareware program CoolEdit to take WMA files and make them WAV files. I can then use Musicmatch to make them MP3's. It uses the sound card input/output as the source for the files.
Start recording in Cooledit, hit play in Windows Media Player, when WMA finishes hit stop on CoolEdit. Edit out the longer head and tail in Cooledit, then you can convert it to MP3 using any one of a few programs.

I said I ran out of time but I kept messing with it anyway!
I have MP9 but I cannot find a rip to mP3 option anywhere...I think only 10 has that capability. However, I did find a way to save as an Mp3 in RealPlayer so I did it that way. |

transcoding one lossless audio format to another will result in horrible quality sound files. It will work ok sometimes if the source file is a high bitrate file and you are transcoding it to a lower bitrate. But Windows Media files are usually crappy quality in the first place. It's like taking a low resolution photo from the web or something, and trying to enlarge it. It comes out all blurry and full of artifacts.
If you want easy free mp3 encoding just download iTunes or something and convert straight from the source CD. SoundClick lets you encode at higher bitrates then a lot of the other mp3 sites which means better sound quality. So you can rip your stuff at 192 kbps with no problems. |
