I picked up a copy of Ted Heath and His Music, Original Recordings, 1948-1952. He had one of the tightest bands from the post-war big band era.

Right this second it's Ray Charles singing "I don't need no doctor" from an old "Records frim the Crypt" show on "WWOZ In Exile" online. That's the New Orleans great radio station that has somehow gotten ahold of tapes of old shows and is airing those while they try to get going again after Katrina. (At this second they've moved on through Chuck Jackson "I don't want to cry' and then a promo for International Vintage Guitars--how cool is that?
Last three CD's in my car-- Soul's Chapel A Matt Murphy CD that I picked up used--don't know the name cause it's in the car. And a new William Clark CD of a live show in Germany in the ninties that his widow just put out. It's well recorded and a good show, a great new disc for William Clark fans. I got it direct from John Markowski (John Marx) who is the guitar player on this CD, sings a tune too. Alot of great harp and guitar on this one.

at this very moment
just now I'm listening to the new Jerry Douglas CD, amazing player playing amazing, though I do wish he'd lay off the fusion stuff . . .
if you'd caught me last night, or yesterday afternoon, or yesterday morning, it would have been "Girls Can Tell" by Spoon. great band. or at the gym yesterday, yep, "How the West Was Won" live album by Zep -- the power and the glory . . . |

I'm listening to the new disc from The Darkness, "One Way Ticket To Hell... And Back". I haven't really formed an opinion on it yet. I feel like it doesn't quite rock enough. The production is outstanding though (done by Roy Thomas Baker, Queen's long-time producer). His influence is evident with the ridiculous amounts of vocal layering on this album.
Last night I was listening to the Amazing Rhythm Aces "Stacked Deck". Great band. Lots of quirky little blues tunes with some fresh ideas. I listen to stuff on headphones at work all day so I usually get in 4-6 albums per day. Those are the two most worth mentioning. |

I saw Alejandro Escoveda 4 years ago, before he got sick. It was a really good show, the first time I'd heard him. He was the opener for a solo Robbie Fulks, who changed my ideas about a one-man one guitar performance.
OK, here's what's been on since my last post: Cream-RAH (TV) John Hartford Cream-Wheels of Fire
