Let's talk about those other Elvis-ses. (What is the plural for Elvis anyway?)

Well there's millions of Elvis impersonators on this planet.

But there aren't many that actually made a career for themselves, let's talk about about them. What they all have in common though is that they took Presley's shtick and gave it their own twist.

None more so than El Vez, who gives the whole Elvis thing a Latin twist by adapting Elvis' songs to incorporate Mexican themes.

And then there's Tortelvis, who's the lead singer of Dread Zeppelin. DZ was founded on "What would be the craziest idea for a band, I know let's form a reggae band who plays Led Zeppelin covers with an Elvis impersonator singing." And so they did.

And to much acclaim, Robert Plant has expressed his love for DZ and calls Tortelvis one of the best Elvis-ses ever.

But in more recent years Tortelvis is getting more and more of his own thing going, having dropped the wigs and going for a bearded look but still very much as Elvis as you can get.

Well, if the plural of penis is "penes", then the plural of Elvis is "Elves". But I don't remember Elvis being in The Lord of the Rings, so I may be mistaken...

I've always wondered why Elvis impersonators choose to use his "Vegas" years rather than his younger, clean cut, better looking years.

more rockin' years, too! although when you listen to stuff like "Burnin' Love", "Way Down", "Rubberneckin'", it was clear that later Elvis was pretty rockin' also, I guess.

I guess the thing is that it's an easy thing for some chubby fat guy to put on a white jumpsuit and do the schtick, "thangyavarrymuch-a"

I love El Vez. I crank him up in the car just to watch my husband grab whatever he can use as an embarrassment-shield.

When I was in high school in the late 1960s there was a Special Ed. student who was a fanatical Elvis fan so everyone called him Elvis. Every day he came to school with his Silvertone guitar and frequently played at lunchtime. He was also in all the talent shows. He really wasn't very good, but he was so earnest in his love of Elvis that he became a popular figure for many and source of derision for some of the cliques.

Plural for Elvis is Elvi, much like plural for doofus is doofi...

Of course, the media doesn't understand that the plural for medium is media...

Sounds almost like a description of this guy. Fifteen or twenty years ago he became famous for his "interpretions". His love for Elvis so earnest that it was touching. His phrasing was eh... unique!

The plural form depends on the vowel that precedes the final s.

Thesis - theses
Crisis - crises
Analysis - analyses

Elvis - Elves (pronounced el-vees)

cactus - cacti
fungus - fungi
focus - foci

Doofus - Doofi
