Most of the bidders have less than 100 feedback. The seller might have a time getting his money!

Funny that you can buy it off his web site for $375. or go on eBay and get it from him for $560. At least after PayPal and eBay fees MJT ends up with about the same amount either way.

I suspect what happened is that bidder e***_(37) really wanted it and put a silly top price bid of say $600, thinking that the bidding would die off at $350. You can see he bid at 10.16.16 PDT thinking that when he got home he would have bagged it for $350-ish.

Along comes s***t(24) and pushes it up to a reasonable $250 which keeps e***_(37) as highesy bidder and then comes along 0***n(9) who bid six times in 3-minutes to a heady $479. He bails out at this and I suspect that the experienced z***t(218) comes in with a cheeky bid knowing full well that e***_(37) has top loaded the bidding and he'd no intention of paying $555 but knew he'd probably push it further.

I suspect that e***_(37) was delighted when he got the e-mail he'd won the bid but his heart sank when he saw the amount.

I've done this myself but you top load it in the last 20-seconds so you know where the bidding's going.

I wonder if he'll pay?

BTW, how long has Mark been in Missouri?

Peter

I'm not quite clear on this strategy though, why not just set your top bid to something halfway realistic, like 350 or even 400.. why set youself up for extra fail at 600?

I genuinely believe the winning bidder didn't expect it to go that high. I guess we'll never know.

My strategy too; generally. But if the bidding is going at one dollar intervals, I have put in a top loaded bid of $100 in the past, knowing full well that everyone is ony bidding im small amounts. There may be a maverick who bids a $5.00 increment but in the last 20-seconds not too much can go wrong.

Crazy stuff happens when an "I just gotta have it" bidding frenzy starts and good judgement goes out the window. I just watched one where a pedal I was looking at went for $10 more plus shipping used than the buyer could have gotten it new through MF shipped free.

It's like bidders are just unwilling to lose like it's some sort of athletic competition and they won't get beat by that SOB ****b9. Some auctions are pretty interesting to watch and I have a better understanding now of why sellers go that route when they have something that's popular enough that it may attract that kind of bidding.

They should give you college credit towards a Masters if you can ever figure it out, LOL.
