Lots to do but at some point you will want to eat...
For excellent fried seafood right on the water, eat at Baxter's: http://www.baxterscapecod.com/ For great chowder, try Captain Parker's: http://www.captainparkers.com/ They're about 20 miles east of Falmouth, but worth the trip.

Falmouth is a very nice town. The beaches on the cape are generally very nice too. I like Nausett Beach (think that's the one). Go whale watching. That's always an adventure. The shopping is good in Hyannis. I was there last summer, and the record store I visited in 1966 and bought the first Love album in is still there! Jack's Drum Shop is in Hyannis now. Plenty of good places to eat. There are lots of local magazines and papers for tourists.

Take a little drive to neighboring Woods Hole. Oceanographic Institute, boat tours, cool shops, pretty much the quintessential Cape experience. Try the Fish Monger Cafe for lunch; casual and tasty! Very picturesque right at the bridge, overlooking the water.

As usual GREAT help.
Thanks guys. Food suggestions sound great! I have a old Highschool friend that has worked over to Woods Hole, Oceanongraphic Institute for years. Forgot about that place. Maybe she can hook up a tour for the boys. |

I spent every summer on Cape Cod (Dennis Port) when I was growing up. There are great local restaurants all over the cape. I've been to a number of the places already mentioned and they are very good. I could give you names of some others, but I'm mostly familiar with the Mid-Cape area which is kind of a haul from Falmouth. I think your best bet for local places in Falmouth would be to ask your friend from Woods Hole.
There is a ferry to Martha's Vineyard from Woods Hole. Martha's Vineyard might make a good day trip. One thing kind of cool about Cape Cod are the different types of beaches. Along the south side the water is warm and there are small to medium sized waves depending on the weather. Along the north side is Cape Cod Bay which also has warmer water with minimal waves. Finally there is the Outer Cape on the Eastern side of the Cape with beaches like Marconi and Nauset with cold water but much heavier surf. This is where the surfers go. The beaches on the Outer Cape are probably the most dramatic looking beachs with cliffs especially as you get further up toward Truro or Provincetown. I'm partial to the beachs on the south side, but I spent my summers walking distance from those beachs so I may be biased. My personal favorite beach/place to swim is at the mouth of the Swan River in Dennis Port. There is the current (tidal so not strong at all) of the river, places where one can dive from the shore into deep water in the river and a lot of shallow area next to the river's mouth where younger kids or those who aren't swimmers can have fun. It's actually a private beach but no one cares if people walk there from the public beaches close by. Have fun. -Mike |

Martha's Vineyard is a great day trip.
Go get an apple fritter at the downtown bakery in Oak Bluffs (The BEST) and visit john belushi's grave in chilmark, leave him a nip of jack! |

The best time to go to the Cape is just off season, after labor day. No traffic! I'm not going to be much help because we stay up in Truro. I would definitely drive up to Provincetown and check it out. We did a whale watching cruise from there and it was great. If you do go to P-town go to the Portugese bakery.

My girlfriend carries a shaker of Tony Chachere's in her handbag at all times outside Louisiana. Yes, in Maryland also. Although we recently ate at a place called Salt Springs way out in Frostburg, MD and it was superb!! |
