One of THE best teachers on YouTube : a member here ?
Came across this guy while brushing up on Monkey Man.
Phenomenal lessons. Like the old old guy across the cul-de-sac who teaches you a song over a beer and knows the coolest stuff. Stax, Memphis, Stones, much more. I'll be learning from this guy as long as his lessons are up. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...7&feature=plcp Anybody know this dude ?

On Soul Man he says, "I'm using this fingering. Use what ever fingering you want." Watch it... the way he says it and waves his hand it is like.. "Don't think too much about it... just do what feels good to you."
If I had ever had a teacher teach like that, I might have actually taken some lessons at some point. That's how to teach a song. I'm a horrible teacher, but when I have to show someone something, that's exactly what I do too. "Here's what sounds good to me... but do it how ever works for you."

I've been a subscriber for awhile, always look forward to seeing his lessons. What I dig the most is the Al Green tunes.

That's my kind of stuff! Its funny, a lot of these songs you take for granted, until you try to play them "exactly" like the recording, great tasteful soulful licks that sound great and are fun to play.
Thanks for posting, I'm subscribed to his videos now! |

There's a link on his youtube channel to The Tony Mowatt Band. Really nice tunes.
And I love this one where you watch him figure out "I'm Your Puppet" a fine instruction on figuring stuff out simply. And I fell in love with the song all over again. Last edited by binkydognose; August 5th, 2012 at 02:49 PM. |

Nice thread, some great teachers there looking at some wonderful songs and very elegant subtle playing - Cropper is the MAN.

I never took lessons because the guitar teachers I've met have always been too stuffy. I started playing as an adult and most technical guitarists don't "get" my style and personality. This guy explains and demonstrates a lot of cool stuff in a way I can relate to.
