Every 1980s romantic comedy score...

...Electric/Synth Piano, Saxophone (preferably by Sanborn), Electric bass.

Maybe some solo guitar during the end credits.

I don't miss that period of film music.

I'm thinking the "Brat Pack" movies. The guitar is always over the top with a lot of whammy bar bends. I shudder just thinking of it.

So, what you're saying is that you're not into that kind of music.

Alto sax or tenor waaaay up there.

Always.

They should call the 80's the The Big Drama or The Dramatic 80's.

I had a lot of fun but wish I wasn't as monogamous (just being honest).

I entered the 80's at 16 and left them at 27.

Girlfriend after girlfriend after girlfriend when it should have been girl after girl after girl...

What were we talking about ?

I wouldn't pin those sax cheesy parts on David Sanborn. I think there were a lot of guys trying to sound like him and most failed pretty miserably.

Most 80's movies that I thought were great way back when seem pretty rediculous now, but I never get tired of watching Andrew McCarthy cry and get beat up to John Parr music.

I guess I am.

I had been watching "Roxanne," and when the end credits rolled I couldn't help thinking how many movies from right around that time had music very similar to that. I think I'd have no problem with it if it weren't so ubiquitous in films from that period. It's almost as if some recording studio in Hollywood just had a gigantic reel of tape with that music on it, and film producers would walk in and say "Gimme about 30 minutes." And some guy behind a counter would measure out 30 minutes, snip it off with a pair of scissors, and hand it over.

"You want wailing solo guitar with that?"

"Just in the final few minutes, thanks."

I like the soundtrack to When Harry Met Sally. I much prefer Harry Connick Jr. to David Sanborn and that guitarist guy who plays all those sappy leads.
That was a romantic comedy that hit all the right notes.

I hear it in my head now:

Katrina: "I used to think maybe you loved me..."

Narrator: "In a world..."

Yep, it's a great one. The thing that really struck me about When Harry Met Sally (although not until the second time I saw it) was that it's about 90 percent people talking. They're walking in the park and talking; eating at a restaurant and talking; sitting at a ball game and talking...the settings and actions keep the movie visually interesting, but all that's really happening is that two or three people are talking. And yet it's never boring; it's a great, funny, touching movie.

Also: Meg Ryan was adorable in it.
