Thoughts On The Movie 'Ted'

I went to see it yesterday, not thinking it would be too exciting. I was surprised to find that it was really funny and also a good story. A totally off the wall movie about a live teddy bear with a potty mouth. The funny parts kept on coming including a completely unexpected scenario where Ted meets Norah Jones and you find out they have had sex. Includes a great clip of Norah Jones playing a Fender Mustang onstage. Haven't seen one of those in action for a while.

I found the trailers pretty offensive and I often wonder how low society is going to go before it hits rock bottom. Everything that is pure and innocent has to be perverted and twisted into filth these days.

I agree with DeepSouth- a movie that seems like something a kid would like actually being coarse enough for adults only just seems wrong. Of course I have young kids so I would think this way.

From the poster it looks like a remake of Adam Sandler's "Big Daddy."

Equally uplifting I'm sure.

From the title Ted I can only assume it is a biopic about Teddy Roosevelt.

I'm being serious- when young kids see ads for it or pictures of it -they kind of think "A movie with a talking teddy bear, I would like to see that." Then as a parent when you have to explain that it is something aimed at adults only it just seems wrong. I admit that I saw the extended trailer and it seemed pretty funny but this is one of those things that my perspective has changed on being around more young children.

Is it really a big problem to tell your kids "I know that looks like a kids' movie, but it's not; you can see it when you're older"? My parents certainly never had any trouble telling me when I couldn't do or or have something they thought was inappropriate for me.

Kids want to see all kinds of movies that aren't appropriate for them. When I saw the previews for Alien as a kid, I really wanted to see it -- it had monsters and spaceships in it! If I was 8 years old today, I'd want to see Prometheus. If Hollywood stopped making films for grown-ups that a kid might want to see, a lot of the coolest movies would never be made. Parents just need to learn to say "No, that's not for you."

Seth MacFarlane is the devil, dragging us ever-lower into his unleavened cynicism. I won't and can't watch anything he does. I feel smarmy when I do.

But he's rich. P.T. Barnum continues to be right.

I'm serious as well, I'm not a prude by any means (I also have small kids) but indeed it does send the wrong message .... whether its funny or not to adults.

Kids need to be kids while they can, all innocence will be lost soon enough on what will become another "unconcerned adult". IMHO

What do you expect from Seth MacFarlane...?

Saw it. It was funny at times, but very crude.

What message does it send?

The movie was better than I expected, I enjoyed it.

Sarcasm warning.....it's terrible that parents have to be parents and tell their children no,and also explain that the movie is for adults. For shame Ted, making parents have to parent.

That a foul mouthed, rude, crude teddy bear is okay. Did you not read Deep Souths comment posted above or in my original post?

I'd say that his comment pretty much covers it

Sounds like Roger Rabbit taken a step farther. Save your money. If you want to see animated characters talk dirty and have sex watch Robot Chicken after your kids go to bed.
