Anyone buy in a GC and have an item shipped to the store?

I called in an order to my local store for a Tele on Saturday the 30th.

I followed up on Tuesday, July 3 and the store manager said the order was placed and the warehouse had it boxed and ready to ship that day.

It is now July 10 and the store said they have not received anything yet.

I have not received anything in my email regarding shipment other than the personal confirmation.

I was expecting a 3 business day turnaround.

Thoughts?

I don't have any thoughts on this other than I am curious as to what the advantage is in doing this versus just having it shipped to your house?

I did a store-to-store with a used guitar last December. I chose this method, so I could inspect the guitar at the store before leaving with it. It took about a week for the guitar to get from the store in California to my store in upstate NY.

As stated, I can inspect it before taking delivery, and I do not have to worry about 1. being home for it if a signature is required or 2. it sitting on my doorstep in the heat if not.

I did from west coast to across the GREAT Mississippi river and had it in three days ... pretty slick. Not waiting' on the porch for some stooge to kipe.

It's encouraging that the store manager understood what you were doing. I only did "ship to store" once, from the GC website. When I went to pick it up, everyone in the store gave me scary blank stares. Like, "Dude, you did WHAT? Whoa..."

Eventually, one resourceful lad searched the office until he found a box with my name on it.

I did and it got here in 5 days. The advantage is to keep it from sitting on my porch and being stolen or damaged. The GC waited to open the box while I was there, so I knew it was mine, and also knew no one else had messed with it. Overall, great experience and I think this is how I will do business with them from now on

I haven't bought guitars, but a few years back I ordered a used pedal out of a store in southern Tennessee. Everything went off without a hitch.

I would call the shipping dept. at corp headquarters. If that isn't possible

Here is a list of all the pertinent people at GC headquarters:

A couple of interesting side facts:

Musicians Friend is a subsidiary of Gale Companies the same a GC, and so is American Music.

They are all servants of the same master.

I have tried buying things online, every once in a while I see a pedal listed cheap but its always sold before I get to it. I just wish they wouldn't charge for shipping to the store.

What's the logic here? You're still going to have to drive to the store to inspect it. If you get it shipped to your house, you can try it with your own stuff, everything's good = no trip, or else you still have to make the trip that you must make if you have it shipped to the store. GC doesn't care about returns, they'll take it back no matter what. I just returned 2 guitars easily.

I did.

I got charged shipping and sales tax, just the same as if I had it shipped to my home.

I only had to wait a week past the supposed arrival date too.

I've ordered a Blackheart 15 watt head and a Jamman Delay and sent it to the store. Got it as expected and didn't have to worry about it at my front door saying steal me to passersby. I've also bought 2 Hartke 4x10 guitar cabs and had them shipped to my house, 1 from MD and the other from Miami, with no problems.

I don't use GC or MF very much anymore. I do agree, if you're buying something NEW, no sweat in shipping to the home address. BUT, if you want something used, I think shipping to the store is a great idea. That way if it were shipped to your house, no one will look at you and ask, "What did you do to it?", if it were broken or damaged when it arrived.

Smart!
