Tailpiece buzzing

I have an Ibanez AF85 that is my "Jazzbox", as it were. Nice guitar, like the way the neck feels, plays nice, strung with 12 gauge D'Addario Chromes. The problem I have is that you can hear buzzing at the tailpiece. Not a problem playing through an amp, but without one it's annoying.

Any solutions?

Might the strings be buzzing against the tailpiece holes?

Felt. You might try a strip of "piano felt" run inside the tailpiece slot against the string ends. Also tucked under the tailpiece. Common jazzbox dodge.

Or you might try turning the ball ends with needle nose pliers so the sting doesn't touch the sides - loosen string or they /will/ snap doing this.

Also check that the tailpiece is not touching the soundboard at its hinge, there /should/ be a little daylight clearance. Put a drop of oil on the hinge too.

Check that the strings are not touching the back edge of the ToM.
