I finally got a resonator! (Republic Biscuit content)

After years of wanting one, I finally bit the bullet and did it. I got my brass Republic Classic Biscuit Cone 14-fret model today and I am very pleased with it. I wouldn't change a thing on it! Here's how it sounds:

Very cool. I have a similar guitar made by Johnson. I put a National cone and biscuit in it and it sounds really nice. Yours sounds nice, enjoy it. They are fun to play with and without a slide.

That's a sweet sounding guitar.
Fine playing! As usual.
Looking forward to hearing more.

That sounds brilliant but I don't want to watch to closely or I'll get another bout of GAS.

You sure make it sound right! I had a Republic Miniolian but I gave it to by brother when his guitar broke. That thing was fun. I have a Johnson style-O but it's nowhere near as nice looking as your reso!

You had the mic in the right place.

Bass comes out of the bottom f hole - mainly.

If you got a Republic with no issues right outta the box, it's a rare thing - enjoy it !

Remember - and I know this from years of experience - resos love nickel strings and they love to see your slide across the room on a shelf while you're playing them in standard tuning a 1/2 step down.

Congrats !

They're lovely sounding even when left as is, or at least ours is. I bought my wife a nice Johnson as a Christmas present. That's what started her current case of GAS. I'm not complaining, mind! It's nice to have someone say "that's a great deal" when I buy some new gear rather than "but you already have one!".

That sounds great, voided3. Congratulations!

You sound great. I listened to you play and I want to go outside and day dream now (a good feeling).

That's a really nice guitar. Congratulations.

Yep, resonators sound WAY different depending on mic placement. I had it about 8-12in from the guitar so it could get some of the cone's attack, too. I typically do use nickel strings on my slide acoustics, but there isn't anything wrong with the fresh set of GHS phosphor bronze strings on it, so I thought I'd leave them be for now.

Thanks! Some people meditate to find their zen. I play slide guitar. In other words, I can relate, and with the lovely natural reverb this thing makes it only adds to the sympathetic drone of open D. I actually have another video on my channel of my Strat XII 12-string I set up for open E slide playing and that is SUPER drone-tastic; very VERY good for playing ambient stuff.
