Custom Shop Guitar Cables

Does anyone use the Fender Custom Shop guitar cable? I was looking at the tweed version (18 or 25 foot) for playing out - to go with my 60th. I don't need one, since my "old fiathful" works just fine, but the tweed does look cool

Of course, if it sounds like **** or won't last, that's a different story.

I don't bring my good recording cables out for live play.

I'm currently using an 18ft black tweed one that came with my recently acquired CS '62 Strat, and it works just fine. What I find of great benefit is that it is soft and tangle free, whereas many cables remain stiff and get into knots!

I've got a 10ft tweed cable. Does the job it's meant to do and looks cool!

Not a big fan of tweed cables (haven't tried the Fender ones, though) - if you play out regularly, they will very quickly start to look dirty and frayed, from dirty (outdoor) stages, spilled beers, people trampling over them with boots, etc. - and unlike regular (plastic) cables, you can't wipe them down with a wet rag.
They may be nice for playing at home or at "refined" (=clean, sit-down) locations (jazz clubs, maybe?), though...

I figured that they'd get trashed eventually. I may just use it for those "refined" gigs :)

Can't say I've ever had a refined gig.

ya may wanna consider, while the overall appearance of a cable m ay be important to some… I mean we do hafta maintain our image …. the only real consideration in a cable is how the accumulated capacitance of the cable will impact the signal as it passes through to the amp.

In the vast majority of applications, the lower the overall capacitance, the less "encumbered" the signal will be….

Higher capacitance will bleed off some of the high-frequency information. It is that very part of the signal that yields a clearer, more articulate and more harmonically complex sound… Thus the resulting sound will be ever so slightly "darker".

None of the above matters if you are playing through a POS amp… sorry but it's the truth…

just FYI….

I have a couple and my experience with tangling is different than was described above. Maybe just my luck but after a week or so on the floor at home, it's a rat's nest. Must not be holdin my mouth right ...

They're pretty tho.

Says Custom shop on front and made in China on the back. I thought that cables are related to the Fender's Custom shop where the guitars and things are made.

Exactly... hence my inquiry about folks experience with them. I didn't see a spec for capacitance anywhere.

It may look cool as hell, but if it sounds like **** - I don't want it

Like I said, I don't bring my good studio cables out. One kink, bend or stomp and they are ruined.

I use custom shop cables made in Rich_S' custom cable shop in the back corner of my garage.

I don't know what they're getting for those Fender cables but I've been using these and for $15.00 they're very nice. Nice gold tweed matches up nice those old vintage Fender tweed amp covers and to their tweed straps as well.

They have black, a black/silver and a black/red as well. The covering is pretty sturdy and I like they way they stay relatively tangle free as well. I like them better than a rubber cables I've used for years.

The Fender tweed cable I bought seems particularly stiff and twists up easily. It also has a pretty long rubber sleeve on the ends that make them poke out more from the body or amp than traditional cables. It does look cool, particularly with my tweed Blues Jr., but I've pretty well quit using it for the reasons above.

I bought the 18', 10' to connect pedalboard to amp & all patch cables (8) in the tweed. Why? Impulse I guess. Sure looks good with my '57 twin! Have had lots of compliments on them. Seem to be holding up well to.

I got some CS Whirlwind (Elite, I think) with my Strat - as previously stated, rodeo rope stiff but I've gigged with it and had no negative tone issues.

Bit of a PITA in seated practice in the bedroom though ..... unwind some, keep the rest in a secured coil.

I might add that these have held up much better than the Evidence Audio cables I "was" using. Went through 2 of them. Evidence was good to send new ones, no questions asked but they were very unreliable! These Fender CS cables have never let me down & pray they don't. Good cable for the money.

Good cable, great sound, but they kind of suck to unwind for a gig or practice. But they are very sturdy and seem like they would hold up for a long long time.
