"CE" sticker...revisited!

About a year ago we hammered around a topic about the meaning of the "CE" sticker on the backs of guitars, pedals etc. It can be seen on the back of this G&L ASAT:

I can't recall what we found out but this past weekend while visiting some friends I noticed it on their 2 year old daughters bubble soap bottle. Now I'm really confused. I'm presuming this has to do with plastics rather than electronics? Is this possible? Who knows?

The CE mark simply means "this product is acceptable for sale in Europe"

That's an oversimplification, but pretty much answers the question in a nutshell.

Obviously, the testing employed to determine suitability is much different for shampoo than it is for a guitar amp {or washing machine or hydraulic stamping press or table radio, etc.}. Nevertheless, the product has been tested {appropriately} and deemed ok for sale in Europe.

There are some exceptions to all of this, but not too many.

CE - Certified European. I find that pretty funny on some items, like an acoustic guitar, for instance; as if it wouldn't play, tune, etc, if it were in Europe.

Actually, it stands for Conformité Européene. It certifies that a product meets EU health, safety, and environmental requirements. Such products may be marketed throughout the EU, as opposed to having to potentially be modified for sale in each individual member country. It is applicable to all manner of products, the mark found on everything from medical devices to toys to Fender AV 52 RIs.
