Former Fleetwood Mac member Bob Welch found dead

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Nashville police say Bob Welch, a former member of Fleetwood Mac who also had a solo career, has died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 65.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said Welch was found dead with a chest wound by his wife at their Nashville home around 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

Welch was a guitarist and vocalist for Fleetwood Mac from 1971 to 1974. He formed the British rock group Paris in 1976, and had hits including "Sentimental Lady" in 1977 and "Ebony Eyes" in 1978.

Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham did backing vocals on "Sentimental Lady."

Aaron said Welch apparently had had health issues recently. He said a suicide note was left.

I liked his solo stuff. Those two hits he had were great songs, some of the
better stuff of the late 70's.

That's horrible. He used to come into Tower Video on Sunste Blvd. when I worked their some 25 years ago, and he looked ghastly then. Later, I read in Steven Adlers autobio that he was a pretty heavy heroin/coke addict at the time, which makes sense. I bought his solo debut "French Kiss" just last year.

So sad. Bob was greatly talented and a nice human being too.

He formed the group in 1976? What about Peter Green?

read the OP's entire post- It clearly states that Bob welch formed the group Paris in 1976. It would be Buckingham/Nicks era Fleetwood Mac in 1976.

Welch's death is really sad. Some of these passings lately are a real shock.

What an awesome voice. Not a bad guitar player either. Loved his voice with Christine's. Sounded like he had some health issues.

George Gruhn has had a Bob Welch guitar with synth and controller for about 4 years and the price is nothing compared to what it was orig priced at. Haven't looked since this news, but sure it's gone.

Pretty sad. He did some really fine work...

I saw Bob play in the fieldhouse at West Chester State in 77 or 78, opening for Dave Mason. Mick Fleetwood made a cameo on congas, IIRC.

RIP, Mr. Welch. You sang some good songs.

awww man, I saw Bob play for the French Kiss album tour way back when, I think it was the Universal Amphitheater. He rocked, and was pretty fun, too (did a few bars of "Saturday night" by the Bay City Rollers!)

Rest In Peace, Bob - we'll miss ya!

He was in a band called "Paris," too. They rocked, but unfortunately, they didn't do well financially. RIP Bob.

Mine, too. Used to cover that song (well, we tried to cover it) in my first band way back in high school. Spent many a day drinking beer and skiing to that song.

RIP Bob Welch.
