I watched it too. I enjoyed it. Amazing how touchy people were back then. Makes you wonder....were they too sensitive...or are we not sensitive enough?

So to summise - the Hatfields owned reliced John Mayer strats while the McCoys wore cargo pants...

It's folklore based on half truths. It was a story perpetuated by the coal companies to make the Kentuckians and south western-West Virginians looks like feuding hillbilly's, not worth holding on to their mineral rich land. The problem is a lot of the residents of that part of the state believe the story. It' s a proud heritage for many of them. This is what we learned in WV history in school at least. I'd suggest watching Matewan if you want a better picture of who was really feuding in that part of the country.

This is just a TV show ment to entertain you! No one knows what started the hatfield Mcoy feud. It is a true story, but a lot of drama added... I like what Capel Tele - Holic said about it in his summery!

It is kinda boring as you can see what is going to happen next. It is strange as anti-gun Kevin Costner goes around shooting people! Hummmmmmm........

That's why they call it acting.
BTW, I thought it was pretty good too.

Thought it was good too.

Bill Paxton remains one of the most one-dimensional actors working today though.

Makes Costner look phenomenal in every scene they're in together...

They seem to be trying to be period correct, but it is a after all just a TV miniseries. I like Westerns and this is close enough since good ones are few and far between.

Don't care if it is historically correct, but since it is on History Channel they should at least run a disclaimer that this is a recreation from the perspective of unverifiable sources. ...or at least announce it as fiction at the beginning of the show.

Seen worse.
Unlike Band of Brothers, there was no narration to quote public records of the events.

Seemed to leave a LOT of it open to Hollywood.

Still, the acting and writing was pretty good.

I love that film, and Sayles' work, in general.

Great story and incredible cast, including a young Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billy.

Highly recommended.

It was better than I expected, being a modern Costner work and all.

Filmed in Romania; it passes fairly well for appalachia.
