Rock and Roll movie recommendation.

Go rent "Dig". It's the recent documentary of the relationship between The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols. I've been a fan of the BJM for many years but had no idea of the chaos and volitility of the band. The film parallels the two bands who at the beginning of the film are all friends. The Warhols seem to do a few things right and experience success and the BJM (or their frontman Anton Newcombe) do EVERYTHING wrong and experience nothing but drug addiction, police, onstage brawls (with each others and audience members) and eventual dissolution. In spite of the tragic elements it is an hilarious film that breathes life into the rock-u-mentary genre. Spinal Tap is as funny but we know it's scripted...this is off the cuff chaos edited down from about 2000 hours of footage. There's tons of extras on the DVD too for the hardcore fans. The producers commentary is as engaging as the actually movie. There is a funny segment with the filmakers partying with both bands after a gig with lots of hilarious debauchery. Even if you're unfamiliar with these bands this it's worth the watch...but not with the kids! Here is a link to the movie website: http://www.digthemovie.com/

Sounds really good. No doubt it'll be tough to get hold of over here :(

Actually, Spinal Tap was pretty much *un* scripted. It was sketched out as to what a scene would be about, but the dialog was nearly all ad-lib...

I heard a review of this the other night on "Fresh Air." Is it on DVD? We don't get any good movies in our little cowtown.

My local "Blockhead" Video didn't have it in last week. I was able to see a friend's copy on DVD. I'm sure it'll be rentable shortly though.
