My Father used to say...

Sometimes common sense ain't so common.

It's been muggy as hell for over 2 weeks now in the Garden State. This morning, roomie left her room to sleep on the couch in the living room because she said her room was too hot. I was hot too, so I lowered the AC down and went back to sleep. The apartment has been nice and comfy/cold all day since and we're well into the afternoon. She just went in her room and said it's a "steam room". I was like, ummm, do you have a window open? "Yes, but just the one in my bathroom". I was like, oh well that will do it. "But I always have it open". I said, well then, maybe it's your vents, I would suggest shutting the window, and seeing if it cools down in there. If not, we have a problem.

No reply to that, and the window is still open.

I think I am going to reconsider my options AGAIN and find a new place of my own, even if it's a rush job.

in the book, Forrest Gump he says, "Being an idiot is no box of chocolate."

they made it 'nice' in the movie... but the reality is... being an idiot.... it is no box of chocolate...

you should live without roommates...

Why would anyone leave a window open if they don't want the weather inside to become more like the weather outside?

You're right. You need your own place; everyone does.

Ha, that's funny. Your father was absolutely right. Years ago when I was a carpenter's helper the old carpenter would always tell me, "son, if you don't use your head you might as well have two asses".

When you turn on the air conditioning, you close all the windows, period. Your rommmate is an idiot. Look elsewhere.

I live in NJ too, and yes, it's been disgusting all week weather-wise.

Is this the same roommate that you were going to move out on a few months back? (And a year or so ago?)

Close her vents and close her door. Tell her that will keep her room cooler.

I think your first quote helps you address your second.

At least it's a roommate and not a spousal unit. Those require 8-1/2" x 14" documents that usually start with "Comes now ..."

Yep, one and the same. Obviously I am a glutton for punishment. And honestly, I know I am partly to blame by not voicing my annoyances to her. But still, the fact is that I couldn't move out then since the lease was not up. And now that it will be soon, it's too short of time for me to find my own place.

Update on the windows....as we were watching movies, she said her room was still hot. I said, well did you close the windows? She said yeah. So I said, well OK by the time you go in later, it should have cooled off in there. I pointed out how nice and cold the living room was, and it's bigger than her room. She thinks it's because of the location of her vent. Fastforward an hour or so more, she heads off to bed (three sheets to the wind as usual). I start to do the cleaning up, and go out on the balcony for a second, and see that her window is wide open. Come back inside, do more cleaning. Then from my window, I can see her bathroom window, I take a peak...that's wide open too. Which means she lied about shutting them in the first place, or when I tell her that I noticed one window open, she'll say she opened it when she got in her room.

Well is she good looking and well proportioned? If so that may be why you put up with it.

Enquiring minds want to know!
