Yes, livestock is a lot easier for wolves to kill, and I have no problem with controlling that.

My daughter was coming back to Phoenix from Show Low / White Mountains and spotted a Mt. Lion running across the highway right about at the Mogollon Rim.

They really are plentiful here, but sightings especially in populated areas is relatively rare. Still, there are stories about one grabbing someone's poodle on some mountain trail and making off with them.

We have a lot more cases of bear coming into the cities, even into the valley, which is unusual because they are more likely to be found at higher elevations.

Coyotes are like stray dogs around here. I have also seen bobcats hunting ducks and coots at the lake I live next to.

It's bad enough when they're on land, but we also have cougars in the ocean.

I never thought there were cougars (4 legged variety) in New Jersey.
But a few years ago there were reports of cougar sightings in the Jackson area, about 20 minutes from my neck of the woods.
I don't think they were ever confirmed.
But there have been more than one tiger sighting in that same area.
Originally, it was suspected that they had escaped form the Six Flags Great Adventure Park there.
But it actually turned out that they belonged to some lady who lived in the area.
No...Really... I promise... I'm not making this up.

Could this be a BYU thing?
After speaking with the cougars' legal advisers, I've learned that the cougars were advised to avoid eating any meal under the age of 18.

I too thought this thread was about a middle-aged divorced woman. There's a fancy retaurant/bar in Sparta, NJ, closeby that's known as a "cougar house."

We have lots of black bears, foxes, and supposedly, a mountain lion or two around here, along with the usual possums, raccoons, skunks, gophers, deer (too many), etc. People who move here from "down below," are something scared of the black bears, but 99% of them are harmless and run away at the sight of a human.

I'm still waiting to see the Jersey Devil or Bigfoot coming out of the woods behind my house.

I live close to the area here in Ohio where they had to close school a couple days because some amateur exotic animal keeper killed himself and set all of his animals free. That included some bears and lions and i think close to twenty tigers, most of which or at least a large number of them had to be hunted down and shot. It was both sad and scary but its the nearest experience I've had to what the OP brought up with the cougars. His situation seems worse because it sounds like it's something that is becoming a common event not the freak event that happened here

Well, they still haven't caught up to him. He was last seen going upriver along the Greenbelt. People have been cautioned to keep their children and pets close or indoors. The one that came down last fall kept them looking for over a week.

I realized right away that you were talking about the 4-legged variety but I couldn't resist a chance to comment on the 2-legged variety. Sorry.

Seriously though, a woman was walking or cross-country sking near Canmore, Alberta a few years ago and she was killed by a cougar. Unfortunately, she was unarmed. Handgun hunting was outlawed in Canada in 1969 so prospectors are about the only people who can carry a handgun in the bush in Canada.

You're a little too far north for the Jersey Devil.
My sister in law lives in Mount Laurel.

As I understand it a (two legged) couger is an older gal hitting on younger guys.
That's why at 47 I'm not into cougers.
