I finally found "the sound" but...

I played through a '69 Super Reverb and loved it. I know a Silverface Bandmaster would sound similar and be less than half the price. I could get enough money, but the problem is the only way I can get it is selling the MIM Strat and Champion 600, I bought bought both in December. I'm 15 so I can't get a job, and even if I could I'd feel bad knowing that I have a job so I can buy an amp while there are people trying to feed their families. My dad is strict about me selling stuff. Any ideas on how to get him to let me sell them? Also, how much could I sell a Champion 600 modded close to a 5F1 circuit that has new Tungsol tubes?

I'd say cut the neighbors grass. anything to make extra money. Try not to sell stuff as you usually lose money that way. Just have the picture of that amp on your brain, work toward getting it. For now though just keep playing a lot. If you get good enough on the guitar and treat people fairly and with love, amps, opportunities, blessings will be given to you.

Give me a break. Go get a job. If you're able to get hired, it means that other people who need to feed their families have already decided they don't want it.

Start saving now, but keep in mind, by the time you've finally saved the money for a Super Reverb you will no doubt have played through a dozen amps you like even more. Amps always sound better before you buy them!

I wish I had everything back that I sold. Take our advice , work at whatever you can find and dont sell to move up. My old guitar teacher used to tell his young students, "Buy the Best , cry once."

Just to offer a slightly different perspective...
Buy something used you can afford and take really good care of it then sell it for what you bought it for and move up. Repeat.
The benefit of doing this is that you are still playing and learning the whole time. Plus you learn how to take care of your stuff and how to sell when it is time. Sure, you may pass on some great gear that you will miss eventually but you will learn from that, too. You will probably also have some setbacks along the way and maybe even have to start over but the education is priceless and the payoff is real if you stick with it.
BTW that is a sweet amp. I have a pimped out '71 that is unbelievable. That said, it is not the end of the road because I own several other great amps too that have their own situations where they shine just as bright.

I don't know about where you live, but that's not how it works here.

I found my SR in a newspaper ad about 25 years ago. I paid $200.00 for it.

That's what I thought I could do, but my dad thinks I'll never be satisfied with anything because I want to sell a cheap amp. I guess I just don't like the sound of a Champ. It sounds cool, but it's not the sound I'm looking for. I bought both used about 6 months ago, and I'm guessing that I could get about $400 for them. If that's not enough, I have one of those weird '60s Teisco things that I could sell too.

You won't get enough from selling your equipment to make much difference.
Champ 600 modded even with good tubes will be lucky to get anywhere what you paid for it before the mods.

How old do you have to be in your area before you can legally work? Is there a McDonalds in your area?

I paid $100. I'm sure I can get that. And my Strat has GFS pickups, so I could probably get about $275. I'm not trying to get a Super Reverb, I know that would be over $1000. I want a Bassman or Bandmaster, I've seen them for $350 to $450.

I know people that have been looking. They aren't lazy. I'm going to ignore every other comment like this on this thread.

As you develop as a player (and dare I say your tastes change with age) your kit will change / you will not get what you need from it - this is a personal musical evolution we all go through. Its part of the hobby/passion/profession.

Most of us have flipped loads of kit, some of us are now happy (for now, anyway ), I regret selling one or two of many guitars flipped - but none of the amps.

As mentioned - Buy the best you can - but the "your sound" of the title, is your feeling and memory of your "Current" tone search - try and work it, but don't die in the attempt - if you go back in a year, the sound you thought you heard won't sound the same then - you'll have a new "my sound" !

Hope that makes sense - Good luck.

I started saving last year for a new Taylor acoustic. Having familial responsibilities and just the crazy stuff that life throws us always seemed to set me back.

But I'm there now and am going to buy my guitar this week!

Keep your nose to the grindstone, do well in school, keep playing and stay positive! Do what you can to save up for what you want. I know it's hard but I'm so looking forward to the payoff which should be any day now!

If you've worked hard for something you shouldn't feel guilty for buying it. However that shows tremendous character on your part. That's the great thing about work. The harder you work the luckier you get.

Find a job of some sort and go to work. In the end you will have a great amp and learn what its like to accomplish something on your own.

Speaking from experience, most businesses where I'm from won't look at hiring you unless you are closer to 17/18 years old. I could never find a job at 15 and boy did I try.

Wow - It's interesting to hear younger folks perspective on jobs.
Iwas born in 59 and started working odd jobs in my neighborhood when I was 10 years old.
Not legal employment, but my pals and I would go door to door asking people if they had any work they needed done. We'd always find someone, at least almost always. Also some good stories came from it, like this cranky old bat that tried to get us to do this humongous weeding and cleanup job for next to nothing. We actually tried, but it was too tough and we politley told her thanks, but no thanks.

But I started working on farms when I was 14. I don't know if it was legal, but my Mom used to load us in her car and make us go do farm work with her. By the time I was 16 I was deeply involved in getting whatever work I could, from part time dishwashing, to driving forklifts in a warehouse. Worked for the forest service fighting fires when I was 18. By then I'd probably had 25 jobs. It was a whole different ball of wax back then. Not only did almost every kid work in summers where I lived, but many worked part time after school or weekends too.

There hardly any of that anymore all the farm work is done by illegal immigrants now and ICE is constantly trying to bust them all. But nobody cares, because these days it almost seems like many kids grow up thinking they are above any job that they didn't have to earn a degree for.
Society seems to be teaching them that.
Thats what happens when you lose your manufacturing base as a country.
We are pretty early in that process still for a history perspective. I think it will be our ultimate demise, unless things change and soon.

Super Reverbs are great and it would be cool if you could get a job and work for one, that's a great goal. Welcome to part of becoming an adult. Planning and working toward your goals is never a bad thing - good luck.

Get yourself a jobby job and work for what you want, like the rest of us. Or take the easy route and sell a kidney.

Your argument is greatly flawed. I have no wife or kids to support. Are you suggesting I should quit my job so someone more "worthy" of it can have it?
