This came up recently while discussing Brian May's PHd in Astrophysics with some friends, we were wondering if he was working In the field, and then started thinking about others who had at least semi serious chops in other areas. (producing etc..is still considered music for our purposes)
We came up with..
Skunk Baxter..Defense Consultant / think tank member
Sonny Bono Politics
Dwight Yoakum actor
Kris Kristopherson Rhodes Scholar( i'm thinking he could still pursue other options lol) Army officer/helicopter pilot., and he has done some acting.

There must be a few others
Ps. I didn't include Frank Sinatra and other singers of his era who acted, danced, did comedy etc, as that was the common definition of "entertainer" at that time.

Bryan Adams is a fashion photographer. Over at Sirius XM, you have Steven Van Zandt as a radio executive (in addition to his acting roles) and Elizabeth Cook with her 20 hours per week on air on "Apron Strings."

alot of punk guys have "real jobs" Greg Graffin from bad religion is a college professor, so is Blake Schwarzenbach formerly of jawbreaker. Greg Ginn still runs his own record label.

Steve Earle does a lot outside music. He's had poetry, short stories, and a novel published...and has even written a play. Oh, and he was an actor on The Wire.

But he has spent a lot more time in outer space than most folks have.

Anyway, I meant to post that Levon Helm had done some acting.

And Neil Young has written some films, done some direction.

Jimmy Buffett is a pilot, but I don't think he's made money at that. He's done well with his Margaritaville chain I think, though.
