Timbukthree started here, sort of, but had to move to make it
Garbage used to be local, one is still here.
Clyde Stubblefield is here, but didn't get big here. Same for the Producer's bass player.
And the bands at my high school prom 2 years running were REO and Cheap Trick, but from near, not here.
Steve Miller and his roomie Boz got started here.

I think the Doors are from California. I can't think of any off the top of my head but there have been a few successful bands out west.

Henry Lee Summer
Pine top Perkins is a South Bend native.
Buddy Emmons is from Mishawaka.
And yes Axle Rose aka William Bailey is from Lafayette ,along with Izzy Stadlin. I can't remember Izzys real name.
Trey Grey,tour and session drummer( Brooks and Dunn,etc) is also from Mishawaka,South Bend area.

I grew up in San Jose, CA 45 minutes south of San Francisco. The list of bay area bands is just too long. It is always weird when a band you've seen several times at a local club all of a sudden is a huge deal.
