A real quit smoking campaign...

Thought this (which I saw on tv today) deserved its own thread. Yikes...

They've been showing that commercial lately and it's sobering, to say the least.

I'm glad I never smoked, although I certainly breathed enough second-hand smoke playing the bars. The happiest day of my life was when they banned smoking in public places here in NJ.

Im a smoker :( (I will quit!!) And every time I see this commercial, it scares the crap out of me!! Its one thing to do it yourself..but the thought of my kids coming over to see me in that condition, is downright horrifying..and depressing. I cant do that to them!

I don't smoke, never have. Only about 20% of Americans smoke and quite frankly I'm sick and tired of these graphic commercials being shown all the time. It's 2012, everyone knows cigarettes are bad, stop with this useless campaign already.

Cigarettes are bad? Since when? We're the only species on earth that intentionally inhales smoke. Spend the PSA money on something else, like free cigarettes for inmates or something...

Some people need to be scared by commercials like these in order to finally face up to the reality that they should quit. The whole idea is to get the remaining 20% of Americans to stop once and for all, but that will never happen. Of course, we can get into the debate of whether the government or any health agency has the right to tell you to stop, and this could be become very poltical, as you probably know.

You're New Yorker. I'm sure you know that Mayor Micheal Bloomberg has been criticized for getting NYC restaurants to cut down on fatty food, foods with high salt content, etc. People have the right to do what they want without a lot of government intervention, but I guess Watchdog Mike thinks he's doing the right thing protecting people's health.

Lucky for you I have seen studies proving that second hand smoke really does not affect your health at all. Unfortunately it just may be one of the nastiest stenches and it sticks to your clothes.

Also this lady has done it and she cares enough to try to make people stop that she did this.

Do you really think it's useless?

I don't.

I had never heard of Terrie Hall before I saw that video, but then I looked at some of her other videos.

Look at the faces on these kids she's talking to. It's pretty obvious to me that she's making a difference.

I think she's a hero for doing what she's doing.

It's supposedly still a free country and we are free to smoke or not. MYOFB is all I say.

Now when they start going after high fructose corn syrup you know they've invented some new drugs.

When I was a kid people smoked in line, on buses, everywhere. It put a lot of my relatives in bad health and some perished quite early.

But nobody was overweight like they are now! Every other kid is overweight. That's messed up, because when I was a kid, we burned calories no matter what we ate.

You know that whatever is in these drugs and our food now has got to be bad bad bad!

You are so correct .
The smoking of tobacco products is still legal .
There are those that are more addicted to and harmed by the money that is extorted from the companies that sell these legal products than those that are actually harmed by the consumption of these legal products .
I quit smoking years ago . No big deal because I wanted to quit .
I do object to others attempting to manipulate me and others and attempting to impose their personal opinions on me and others .
I just would like to see some smokers wear shirts and post signs that read " I smoke , please don't breathe ."

Not a smoker, but I don't like her video because she says, "Look what tobacco has done to me".

IMO, she did that to herself...the tobacco didn't just jump into her mouth. Addiction? There are lots of addictions...and smoking is just one of them...with lots of solutions for breaking it.

It starts with good parenting. If you want to find the source of all these addictions, look there. Past that the solution is with the person who has the problem.

The truth is some smokers get cancer, some don't. Everybody is different.

I don't smoke, but I work in the tobacco industry (not cigarettes, but cigars and pipe tobacco).

So smoke cigars.

How lucky indeed! In that case, please explain how my brother and I both ended up with asthma, in a family where on both sides there is no history of asthma.
