George Lindsey, known as Goober Pyle, dies

George Lindsey, who spent nearly 30 years as the grinning Goober on The Andy Griffith Show and Hee Haw, has died. He was 83. Read the story.

When he was signed to Hee Haw, he started dabbling in the real estate business.
He made huge money buying and developing.

Goober was a little slow, but George Lindsay wasn't.
Great character and a really nice man.

i thought it was cool that he embraced the character and never griped about being "type-cast". RIP George.

He was great at voiceovers too. It's funny that with his rather unique personality he became somewhat of a stereotype...but in a good way. His characters were usually likeable and humorous.

I remember the only time i saw him-early 70's in Fort Worth. He opened for Roger Miller. I must have been 10 years old and i remembering laughing a lot.

RIP George.

One of my first gigs in Nashville was being Mr. Lindsey's driver while he made some public appearances. He was the funniest, kindest, and most generous person, especially to a greenhorn like me. RIP, Goober. Hey to Floyd.

Looking back, between Andy Griffith, Hee Haw and all the Disney flicks, George Lindsey was everywhere.
RIP
