Suck it up, you are obsessing. Find something to do. Take a long walk, whatever.

Get a mantra you repeat every time you want a cigarette. Won't help much at first, but it works. Mine was 'I don't do that anymore'.

Unless you really want to quit you might as well light up.

Just imagine all the gear you'll be able to buy when you're not spending six to nine dollars a pack!

the patch helped me get through it. it still wasn't easy... you really have to want to quit.

i quit 15 years ago. i can honestly say, i don't miss it one bit and i'd never go back to it.

i hate cigarettes and i think it is a most selfish thing to smoke if there are people in your life that care about you.

I've never been a smoker so I can't offer you any tips, but I can offer my support, for what it's worth. My grandmother quit smoking after my grandfather had a heart attack and was told by the doctors that he HAD to quit. He suffered from emphysema the rest of his life, but never smoked again. She never smoked again around him... but would sneak one every so often. After he died she started smoking again - she didn't care any more. She died of lung cancer.

If my grandfather could quit, you can, too. Do it now, before you have the type of motivation he had. Let us know how you're doing!

I'm trying too. I've cheated. I'm not making goals. Just trying not to smoke. Doing Ok throughout the day. I'm using patches. It is tough.
I know patches and gum won't work unless you seriously want to quit. It is willpower. I think the hardest thing to quit is the actual habit over the addiction. Yeah, the addiction is tough.

It's also tough because everyone in my life is a smoker. I go out a lot. I play music. Practice is with smokers. The girl is a smoker. AAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!

And....gum comes with directions?

It seems a big mental battle so far. No I don't want to smoke anymore, but all the triggers.

I did make a car ride successful. God I thought I'd die. That's the big smoker for me., the car.

The real battle is psychological.

All the rituals.

The physical part leaves your system fairly quickly,

but those damn rituals! Like Penny said, you will be saving a lot of money, which could help assuage some of the stress. Treat yourself. Uh, not to mention the health benefits, of course.

Good luck man, you can do it!

I don't have that problem. I never smoke inside my home or my car. Unfortunately, girl smokes in her car. My car is broken. Half the time I'm driving hers (she prefers if I drive) and she lights up.

I'm Quitting too!

Just wanted to tell you to keep working at it! I am on day 8 of my quit. I have been smoking a pack a day for 30 years, and finally decided to try and give 'em up!

The website www.whyquit.com is a cold-turkey quitting site, and has been very beneficial to me! As I said, this is day 8 and the cravings are very short and few during the day!

Remember, these craving battles are only about three minutes long, and your body will be nicotine free in 72 hours!

Best of Luck! Don't give in to the craving!

Been nicotine-free for the past three years. This is the fourth time I've quit for more than month. 1st time I quit for a year. The 2nd time, 6 months. The 3rd time, only 3 months. This time I'm going on 3 years and I think it's going to stick.

Sometimes I still get cravings, but it's nothing like the first 72 hours after I quit. For myself, it was like I had the flu. Headaches, body aches, irritable, cold sweats, etc.

On day four the flu-like symptoms went away, but I still love the way tobacco smells. That's how I know I'll never be able to take another puff. Even big old stinky cigars that I never liked before, even those smell good to me now.

If I only had a month to live, I'd be tempted to order a bunch of hand cut Virginia flue-cured from this family farm I know up in North Carolina... However, I hope (and plan) to live longer than that, so I can't abide the tobacco anymore.

Being tobacco free really does feel like a ball and chain was removed from my life... But it was a cozy ball and chain, one that I dragged around for 30 years.

If I can quit, I think anyone can.

Hang in there. It's tough especially if like me you weren't raised to be a quitter. I tried patches but they're so hard to keep lit. No really I wore one the first day and had a reaction to the glue so I wound up quitting cold turkey.
Now my dad say's that he hasn't quit, he's just seeing how long he can go without one. His last one was in 1978.

Yeah I found that website. Lots of good info.

Being home and just iceboxing the house... helps the hot flashes.

Staying busy is another big deal.

Dang sleep.. if I could just sleep it off..
