Best mouse trap bait?

I got mouses back. I use to use peanut butter in a trap, but,
I think they are just laughing at that now.

Any more ideas. Cheese would get hard?

I hate meeces to pieces

I was told once by a pest bloke that they often used a sticky lemon flavoured lolly (candy in American speak) as they stick to the trigger and are hard to pull off. But they would have been Aussie meeses. Failing that get a cat or some Ratsack (poison)

I've used chocolate to good effect, and I've read that soap is also strangely appealing to mice.

Mine are laughing at the tried and true peanut butter.
I take a sunflower seed and jam it into the metal bait holder, then coat it with jelly. They eat the jelly, then get greedy and can't pull the sunflower seed out. Whack!
Love the wheel of death, but I use it in the garage only.
I also got a Rat Zapper. It's powered by 4 D Cell batteries. It kills them instantly. Works on pesky squirrels too.

All of that said, we just got a kitty. I am looking forward to a mouse free winter.

Online everyone says that peanut butter works and cheese doesn't but I found the exact opposite - a small chunk of cheddar knabbed 4 guys at my old place before I got my cat, and the peanut butter didn't get any. This was with glue traps - not sure if that makes a difference.

In our shop we used to have mice and rats you could ride! We finally found the one food they simply could not resist....pizza crust. Something about the smell would draw them out of the woodwork to their end.

Something with a strong smell? Catfood, chocolate syrup, vanilla, maybe birdseed?
My cat has caught a few mice over the last 14 years but never really cared. We recently got a small papillon dog who goes after mice likes it's his job! He'll station himself at the bottom of the basement stairs and wait for days. He is only 7 pounds, and also catches squirrels, but the squirrels stay out if the yard now.

I think the "Wheel of Death" is ingenius and effcient. May have to retire my Cat.

This is another possibility that is utilized with Squirrels. I would use the Peanut Butter/Cheese combo for bait and keep this trap mechanism in it's current proportion. Given the mouse's size it would mean that it could conceiveably be launched over a 1/4 of a mile.:

I've used peanut butter for years, never failed. Thing is to put it right where they go, which isn't hard to do...follow the droppings trail.

I remember one night we had a mouse after the county cleared the drainage ditch out back of my house. I put PB on the trap, slid it behind the fridge (where I'd seen him run) and no sooner turned to walk into my bedroom, SNAP! Literally less than 20 seconds.

I must say the "Wheel Of Death" is way cool! I also love the "Rat Zapper", but I have been using peanut butter for years and still works for my Maine meeces!

I use natural PB. Maybe it's the oily goodness that they love?

It's not going to work so good inside the house, though.
