Songs..or Parts..That Throw You Playing Live

Alright..we've all got 'em. Those parts of songs you dread playing live.

Im my bands current set list, I have two:

Intro to Billy Idols, Rebel Yell..that hybrid picking!! Some nights I nail it..but when I dont..Im all alone for everyone to hear.

Intro to Guns N Roses', Sweet Child O Mine..the string skipping and repetition! Again some nights Ive got it nailed..others..there I am again..all alone until everyone else comes in..

Your turn!

Wanted, Dead or alive. Had it thrown on me at the last minute and ABSOLUTELY butchered it. Since then I have exorcised the Demons by having to play it 3 times a day on a mission trip. I still run the other way when it gets suggested now though.

The sitar riff for "Paint it black"... & the bandleader at the time wanted it played twice before the band came in.

The guitar solo on "Tennessee Flat Top Box". It was the first lead lick I ever learned. Sometimes I nail it, sometimes it nails me. Sometimes both ways in the same song, since you play it three times each time you play the song.

"How Soon Is Now" by the Smiths. Such an awesome song, and I sucked so bad for not being able to play it.

I've heard even Johnny Marr himself uses a loop live... nevertheless, it bummed me out big time that I couldn't get it down. To truly nail it, you must be extremely precise and extremely 100% on with your timing--I am neither, I'm a pretty sloppy guitarist so it was just never gonna happen.

It was the one song my band couldn't play--solely because of me.

haha..we all have some of those !! I know what you mean..we used to do a muse song that I could never get the solo down for...until i figured out I could hit the same notes on two strings as opposed to three+constant string skipping..just couldnt stay anchored at the 12th position..but it was much easier..
Im actually practicing the Sweet Child..intro now..finger picking..much easier..think Ill cheat and do it this way from now on...funny..the other times that riff pops up in the song, Im fine..its only during the intro where its just me.

I hate to say it, 'cause I've been playing it for 20 + years, but the bendy signature lick in Gimme 3 Steps is tripping me up at the moment. Of course I'm in a (basically) one guitar band at the moment, and the whole thing kinda lurches and sounds hollow even if I hit correct notes. My requests to ditch it have been resoundingly denied.

There's a fast horn riff in "Jack, You're Dead" that I have to play either fingerpicked or raked, 'cause I can't alternate-pick it fast enough. But raking I can't nail the groove as well, and fingerpicking means I have to get the pick out of the way, which I can do some nights but noth others.

'La Bamba'. Three chords and it's the hardest song in the set, by miles.

That gets more people up to the dance floor every time.
I capo up on 5th...and the other guitar does regular open cowboy chords.

The one song that I have trouble is "Fever". Very easy to rush the tempo, which just kills the feel.
Another one is "Rumble"...keep missing the chord, after the solo. Got right one time at a gig but haven't been get right since. I get it right at practice...some days, you just can't win!

The guitar solo in BR 549's version of "Cherokee Boogie"... I play with my fingers and a thumb pick and there is one 'up' pick with the thumb in the middle of the pattern that I have a lot of trouble keeping steady with the rest of the riff. Seems no matter how many times I run through it, there is always just a bit of hesitation on that 'up' pick note.
