Rihanna is better than The Beatles..

...and the Stones.

Quote:
Former Radio One DJ, Tony Blackburn has recently been quoted saying that he believes Rihanna is better than The Beatles.

He claims, "I actually think today’s artists are better than those of yesteryear", when asked if he thought the 1960s were a golden age in music, adding: “The Beatles and the Stones just stood there with guitars and sang... People like Rihanna can sing and dance and do everything."

See, instead of all that time and money spent on playing guitar, we should have been taking dance lessons. I hope we've all learned something here today.

Blackburn always struck me as being about as bright as a black cat's arse in a coal cellar, and this tends to support my impression...

+1 - I suspect the "she can do everything" doesn't include playing a note.

I'm from an era where being in a band meant being able to play an instrument.

That'll do for me. He's a ham shanker.

What he misses entirely is the fact music is not a competition, nor is it close to being relevant to compare 2012 with 1960.

Let's send Rihanna to Hamburg to perform 8 hours a night every night for a good long while, and then write all her own songs and change pop music history over a span of 6 to 7 years.

How can you even compare the two totally different styles of the Beatles and Rihanna anyway? Everyone's entitled to an opinion though I guess.

"People like Rihanna can sing and dance and do everything.."

Funny thing about that.. they actually can't sing and dance at the same time. For the most part, the ones who are dancing are actually lip syncing. If they actually tried to sing while dancing, you'd hear how out of breath they were. You can't do both. Singing and playing an instrument is totally doable, as we all know.

I don't know who Tony Blackburn is, but he obvioulsy doesn't know a damn thing.
