My grandaddy used to show me how to play it. Isn't it a kind of knife-throwing game?
When I was in high school, 93-97, the dress code wouldn't allow wallet chains, but pocket knives were ok. Principal said it was part of a southern gentleman's attire. |

Doesn't go well with guitar playing, at least long term.

mumblypeg ?.. so it's a real game..mmmkk
"don't let him play mumbleypeg with you, he'll steal your leg"... was a lyric in an old song... as an aside behind the lyric... was it a FZ song?... that's the only time I've heard that word..... anyone remember which song?... to save me a frantic mumblypeg search...

it was CSNY.. 4-way street...
What do Crosby and Nash say at the beginning of "Right Between The Eyes" on 4 Way Street? Crosby screws up at the beginning, and the conversation between he and Nash goes something like this: Crosby: "Sorry...I never would have believed that you could tune and start on the same note, but you could do it." Nash: "I didn't believe it either..." Crosby: "He's quicker than most normal human beings, and sometimes I forget. He is very quick. You don't want to play Mumbly-peg with him, he'll steal your leg!" Graham Nash then goes on to explain the origins of the song "Right Between the Eyes". What is Mumbly-peg? Mumbly-peg is a game that is actually talked about more than it is played. The purpose of the game is to toss a knife into the ground with the aim to land it with its point in the ground. If the participant loses, the opponent hammers a peg into the ground, which the loser must draw out with their teeth. There are several intercollegiate Mumbly-peg teams, the most famous of which is the Toothless Trouncers of St. Miniver's, Winnipeg. In one year alone, they came out 15 and 3, with only minor dental surgery required during off-season.

We played the closest to the other guys foot thing as kids... but by high school, my only accoutrements were normally a FG110, a bota full of wine and a pouch I wove together from leather patches for other necessities!
We could do about as we pleased back in those days...

Just brought me back 45 years. Round two we would pee on the peg too, a lot of quitting at the end of round two...

Myself and some buddies once played against another friend's sister. She beat us. It was the beginning of a swell romance that went on for years.

I played as a kid. We weren't allowed to have knives at school, but pretty much everybody did. As long as they weren't visible, nobody made a big deal out of it. I've had a knif in my pocket since I was eight years old. Have never gone a full day without one.
We mostly played on Boy Scout campouts and after meetings. Free time at school mostly found us getting bruised to hell playing wall-ball.
