Had an accident, guitar playing not easy.

Was at work, needed to clean up a mess so grabbed the spray bottle labelled as general purpose detergent - it was neat industrial strength bleach!

Needless to say a few seconds in I realised my error, but not before I got me some blotchy peeling skin, even now it's has healed over, it's still very sore to play for even short amounts of time - resorted to detuned 9s and to get through a gig I had already booked but it's still not quite there.

Hopefully this should go within months, but until then my tele may be gathering dust for a while.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Hope you heal up quickly! Over here, in a large closely monitored establishment, we'd call that a "recordable incident" for sure.

It has been recorded and I've got 2 weeks off on full pay and compensation coming - NGD coming soon? ;)

I have a feeling it'll be squier money rather than fender money though...

I don't suppose the question of who put the bleach in an incorrectly labeled container was illuminated, huh?

I was forced to a long layoff from the guitar due to an injury to my left arm, a few years ago. I couldn't play guitar at all, but I could play piano pretty well, with RH & a few notes with the LH. Got me through a rough time.

Sounds painful, in more ways than one. Leaving a guitar to collect dust for weeks or more sounds (to me) as painful as the injury itself. At least you have time off with full pay and compensation.

I relate somewhat. A couple of weeks ago, I fell and sprained my right shoulder. I haven't played a gig since that time. I did play a bit when I went up to visit my family last week (my kid brother's a player as well), though I had been instructed to lay off for weeks. I just couldn't do it.

But even while I was "cheating," I played my Teles almost exclusively. I haven't touched my dreadnaught acoustics since the fall; reaching around the big bodies of those dreadnaughts to strum was just too hard on my shoulder. Of course the body profile of a Tele is nowhere near as big as a dreadnaught acoustic, so it's easier on me to reach around and play.

I think the time off was a goodwill (please don't sue us) gesture do to these circumstances..
