Summer time, and the livin's easy... who's going on vacation??

...and where??

Or, who's going "on holiday?" :)

We're only going to do one or two long weekends this Summer that are driving distance... one destination will be Pagosa Springs, CO which we love. Love soaking in those hot tubs, getting in some hiking, good local brew pub, etc. We may also scoot down to Santa Fe one weekend.

What are your plans??

Taking kids - daughter (12) and son (10) - to San Francisco in July. We did San Diego for spring break last year and they were eager to return to California. We'll hit the touristy things - Alcatraz, GG Park, Ghirardelli - but also take day trips to Marin to see a friend, Santa Cruz (boardwalk and zip lining), and hope to take in a Giant's game at PacBell.

Got a cabin reserved up in the Ozarks of NW Arkansas for 4 days coming up - can't wait for that.

Also got a condo reserved on the beach Florida for a week, can't wait for that either.

I'm going on my kids' school camping trip in a month. Woo-hoo! (Actually, we have a tight group of cool families, so it's usually a blast.)

Niece is getting married just north of Tampa in June so we're attending. My wife is flying out.

Me?

Motorcycle trip to Monterey Ca to visit aunt and cousins, Venice Beach to play guitar with my brother and visit a cousin (he rides bikes in the desert with Opee the Off Road Puppy), San Diego to visit with my uncle and cousins. Then east to Tulsa to visit with my aunt. Then to Orlando to visit with my daughter (she's at MMI taking motorcycle repair classes), then Key West to get the number 1 sticker, then to the wedding for four days, then north to Richmond Va to visit my brother, then to Deals Gap to play and visit with an old friend, then home.

About 8,000 miles and I'll be camping and I bought a travel guitar so I can practice and play for the family on the beach.

Carl

Going to the beach with the inlaws and outlaws, 15 people (4 toddlers, 1 new born) in a 4 bedroom condo for a week.

I'd like to get our own hotel room a few miles away.

We're flying back to West Virginia for a week to visit friends and family.

San Antonio is close to the gulf, but I have no idea what beaches are good. We'll probably do a long weekend or two at the beach this summer when we figure it out. We used to fly to Myrtle Beach, SC. The Huntington Airport had a deal where we were flying for like $120 round trip for two of us. It's a lot more expensive from here. I'm also used to East coast beaches (Florida, The Carolinas, Virginia Beach, and Ocean City, MD) I have no idea what to expect here.

We're hoping to make the 1200 mile trip out to visit my parents at some point this summer. My boy just mentioned wanting to go to the beach this morning (we went camping at Assateague Island a few years back). I don't know that we'll do that one, but we'll see. I'm planning on using some of my vacation time to get some work done around the house - things I've been putting off for way too long.

My wife and I take our big trips in the winter. It's the Canadian thing to do, go somewhere warm so you have something to moan and complain about in January and February.

We finally live in a place where there is a lot to do in the summer, after years being busy or living in a remote area. We're going to stick to day trips. Many vineyards, concerts, festivals, etc. in the area.

Three little ones, no big extended vacations. Four days in Las Vegas for a nieces wedding with lots of family. Then June 30th to Placerville, California for an outstanding brewfest with friends from all over. Stay for an extended weekend. Then four days in Charleston, South Carolina for a nephews wedding.

Gonna take my 4 year old daughter bikepacking a couple times. Just 1 or 2 nights over the weekend when I can get away. Money's tight, gas, flying and hotels are expensive. I can get about 30 miles on the fully loaded bike with kid trailer on a package of ramen noodles (fuel for me is cheap). Can't wait until the baby is big enough to get on the bike with us. Maybe this fall I'll get em both out.

Since I'm self-employed, I'm giving myself 2 months off this summer, usually I only take 1 month. There's enough money saved to carry us over the extra time. The exception is one week of work at a kids music camp in Nova Scotia, which is half work, half holiday. Otherwise gonna spend some time fixing stuff around the house, fishing, cottage time, and generally trying to keep the bride happy while staying out of her way.

The wife and I are flying to Maui on Thursday. A trip that's long overdue. A good buddy's been living there for almost 20 years and it's time to check it out. My kids are older now and can take care of themselves- they're not coming with us.
Expensive? yes! but we deserve it because we generally live very frugally year 'round.
It's just like that John Lennon song, "Just Like Starting Over".
Signed, so psyched!

Vegas early June to see Santana at House of Blues. Probably stay 4 days and see a couple other shows, but already got the tickets for Carlos. I've never seen him live so I'm looking forward to watching him.

Cleveland, OH to see Laura's dad who's in his eighties and not so great health. While we're there we're going to the R'n'R HOF to see the Grateful Dead exhibit and possibly catch an Indians/Tigers game. We'll also go down to Medina to see Laura's cousins.

In June my brother is getting married again and we're goiing to the Bay Area for that. Sailing on the bay is on the agenda and a trip up to Chico and Humboldt Co. in on the list as well depending on time and money.
