I wear a hat quite often, I work outdoors year round. Everything from a cowboy hat to ball caps to rain hats. My favorite is a wool stetson I have had forever, and a straw bon jovi type for the summer. My wife doesn't allow the bon jovi one when shes with me, pretty beat up.

If I could just figure out how to crop this photo you would get a better view of me and my hat circa 1994.

Use the "crop tool", but just crop yourself out

Yeah. Drives me nuts. It's more prevalent in the South/Southeast, but it's spreading.

A guy here at work actually got all irate when a supervisor informed him that hats weren't allowed in the office, despite the fact that he had been informed of this policy and signed papers to that effect when he was hired. He felt he was being discriminated against because of his Southern culture, whereas everyone else felt it was kinda ridiculous to wear a ballcap indoors and call it "business casual."

Anyway. I hats kinda got ruined for me when I worked at jobs that required I wear one as part of the uniform. That and nametags. I just don't wear hats unless it's for protection from the elements. I think about the only one I've worn in the last decade is this one:

Mine has special properties too esoteric for this discussion.

But you can see it...

I usually wear a ten gallon hat with my tee shirt, cargo shorts and nikes. Snappy look that a real man can pull off!

Ball cap almost every single day. I like the fitted elastic band ones the best. I have to protect my dome from the sun.

This spring in Tucson I've been wearing a real (folding) panama:

It feels a little dandyish but its the most practical / comfortable sun hat I've ever worn. And my dermatologist won't let me out of the house without one.

Those leather hats look cool, but too hot for my noggin. I like the baseball or trucker caps with the mesh in the back for the summer.

So you guys just use em as fashion accessories or noggin covers ?

Not pan dimensional exploration units Or temporal realignment processors ?

I think I might be in the wrong hat thread.

I wear a cowboy hat a lot - the main one I wear I've had since I was 17. My grandpa and I shaped it over a pot of boiling water and it means the world to me :-) ....I keep trying to explain to my British husband that you have to wear a hat in Texas. It has nothing to do with fashion in any way....THE SUN IS HOT. A HAT PROVIDES SHADE. I bought him a ball cap (*gulp* it's a Farmall hat so it's at least something he likes) and I think after that first serious sunburn, the boy will consider wearing it. ;-)

I found an old (circa 1930's) Thoroughbred Pedigree (made in St. Louis, MO) 10X off-white western hat at a local flea-market.
Beat-up and slightly stained, but with the THICKEST fur-felt I've ever seen in any hat?
The old boy has character with a capital 'C'!
