I lived in Boston and vicinity for about 8 years many years ago, and I like the place very much.

I think it's safe to say it's a very diverse city, for better or worse.

This has been rumored to be true about Boston for some time, even before the invention of the internet. I had read long ago that black athletes didn't like playing in Boston for this reason--whether or not any of this is true, no idea.

All this said, lots of people are crude and say horrible things behind the anonymity of their computer screen--I don't think Boston has cornered the market on that.

Delmon can suck it. He was a drunk when he was the Twins had a Randy Moss style of play. When Delmon wanted to play, Delmon played.

Come on, Shepherd. You can't be that isolated. Not even in Maple Ridge.

I'm going to a family reunion today, and eat a lot of fried chicken and desert, that's it, fried chicken and desert. I try to avoid stepping in hockey, it makes your shoes smell funny.

No city has a monopoly on idiots.
It sucks when the place you live in gets a reputation based on idiots making headlines.

On one occasion, an older friend/supervisor had to restrain me from giving a few racists a NYC style knuckle sandwich for their slurs.
And that stuff would never ever happen in NY or NJ.

Find me a place that's not racist to some extent and I'll give you a free pass to the World.

As a middle-aged black man who's travelled quite a bit, the most rabid acts of racism I've ever encountered were in Maine and Mass..but who cares? Some people will ALWAYS find something to hate.

The Red Sox were the last MLB team to integrate, and didn't do so until 1959. Interestingly, the Celtics were one of the first.

They call it twitter for a reason?

I'd never condemn an entire city for what some morons sitting in their parent's basements type on an anonymous internet forum.

I'm not a fan of desert. It takes forever to get the sand out of your teeth.

Having been to dozens of Bruins games, I can tell you they are the most volatile and hostile of Boston sports fans, just very unrefined and reactionary. Some find it an endearing character, I dont, and don't really go to the games any more.

The weird thing about Boston sports fans is that they channel their anger and disappointment in strange ways, usually by turning on the team because of one play/game. I have a running joke with friends about this, that every time Piece misses a basket or a red sox player strikes out, "that's it, this team sucks, and always has". Bruins fans are the most notorious, where if a goal is scored it's "damn thomas, guy hasn't had the fire all season, he's a bum"

please don't think it's representative of the city or its sports fans. I'll admit there are still a few from the bussing/racist era left to die off, but the city is going in the right direction, albeit a little behind. we're the bluest state and the old guard and/or idiot townies arent representative of the majority of the city has to offer. It's just that every idiot sports fan has a megaphone with twitter where their stupid comments aren't kept within the confines of hearing distance.

that said, we also applaud and hold high our sports legends of whatever race or creed:
