Strap locks on Rickenbacker... HELP!!!!!

Hi there, I own a Rickenbacker 330, like this one..
http://www.voxshowroom.com/northcoas...0-12/330mg.jpg

And as you can see the strap button on the back is attatched to the "R bridge". I really need to get strap locks on this guitar because I own a wireless and am going to attatch it to one strap and change strap when changing guitars. Is there any way to somehow remove the strap buttons on these guitars? Or somehow get dunlop strap locks onto it?
Thanks very much guys!!

Is it welded in place or is it just held in by a screw? If it's a screw just take off the strings, remove the screw and tail piece and put it back with your straplock.

Hard to tell from that pic, but it almost looks like it's already got Schaller buttons.

The actual button itself has no screw in it.

If it's hollow you don't want strap locks anyway. KLANG KLANG through the pickups - at least on my casino. My only guitar without straplocks - cuz of the noise.

On my Ric 330, if I remember correctly (sorry too lazy to go and look just now) the strap buttons just screw right in as a single unit (rather than the button and screw normally seen). I definitely know that the screws are the wrong size to be able to fit standard schaller straplocks. For years I used cheap plastic things which fitted over the top of the strap - I forget what they were called but they worked fine. Then I tried a planet waves strap with built in locks which didn't work at all well. Nowadays I use the tried and tested Grolsh bottle rubber washers which seem to work brilliantly and come with a free beer with each washer:-)
I must admit that that doesn't help much if you want to change straps though...
Howsabout using velcro to mount the radio system? i.e. one side on each strap, t'other on the radio. Might work??

The Rickenbacker "R" tailpiece is in 2 parts. The "R" itself holds the strings, the plate attached to the body has 3 screws, the center screw is the strap button. There are 2 small screws on either side of the strap button.
The Ric strap buttons should be Schaller compatible, but if need be this item is available from Ric & probably most Ric dealers.

Hope it helps some.

Rickenbackers come strap lock ready. You just need the Schaller female component. The strap buttons on Rics are made for Schaller strap locks.
I have a Ric 330 and Schaller strap locks. I did not have to change anything on the guitar. It's ready to go. I don't understand why you are having a problem.

So are you saying if unscrew all 3 screws, I should be able to change the button? Only thing is I just checked out my Rick, and I only see 2 screws on either side of the button at the back, I don't see a center one. Mine looks like the image above by ScatMan.

The button is really the head of the third screw. Hence, the serrations around the edge of it. Just unscrew it with a cloth covered pair of pliers, or similar. Then, get the part someone posted above.

You should not have to take out the other two screws to accomplish this.

Note that the screw is a machine screw and is threaded through the R-Tailpiece bracket:

If the size/configuration of the bolt strap lock button that bunny 7 mentioned is the same as what you already have on there; and you say the Schallers you have don't fit, then obviously it won't work.

Wicked, thanks alot. I'll try taking the button out and putting the button in that comes with the dunlop buttons!

I don't know, man. I'm looking at the Dunlop site, and all the strap buttons use a wood screw and not a machine screw like what is on the Ric.

Maybe you can get a machine screw that will fit and work.

Why the confusion? bunny 7 already gave you the link to the pieces you need.

As Scat said, a wood screw will NOT work.
