New Strings...
I've been playing for pushing almost 38 years (crikey!) and I still get totally excited by a new set of strings... It's almost like getting a brand new guitar...
Yippeeeeee!

I like to buy strings. I like to have'em on. I don't much like changing'em. Mostly because in my house, I rarely have time to do it. When I get time, I feel like I should play. Funny, the times when I find myself alone in the house for a period of time....usually a few of my guitars find themselves restrung.

I don't like new strings. They don't feel comfortable and I hate changing them. They do sound nice though. I'll usually change them when I notice the old ones getting dirty and rusty.

New strings feel too shiny and... light? I can't describe it, it's as if the gauge or tension changes after they've been on for a while. I also can't stand the guitar going out of tune when I play. I mean, I play a Telecaster, right? I am NOT familial with the concept of regular retuning! :)

I'm changing the strings on my arch top right now. For the first time. I haven't had it but maybe a month and a half. Totally forgot that it had a floating bridge

strings just sound dead to me after a while, and when i can physically see the strings are "dirty" (not practicing good wipedown technique after playing...) then they have to go. my current set have been on i think a couple months, maybe longer....WAY OVERDUE FOR A CHANGE.
and come on, the tuning issues last all of 2 or 3 songs of the set :)

I like the process of taking the old strings off and installing new ones. I usually do all three of my electric guitars at once, even if only one needs them. Usually that's my PRS. Once the new ones are on, it usually takes a week or two before they feel right. |
