Incredible. Why are we fighting?

I thought of the title of this song as I looked at those incredible pics. Thanks.

When I was a kid, there were a few deep sky color photos...as I recall they were taken at the Palomar Observatory and the folks at Kodak helped them out to pull it off.

Wow!

That is all I can say about the stuff we see today.

Thanks for sharing!

I've tried my hand at astrophotography. It is not easy, or cheap. I have not been out in a few years. I want to get Mars this year. It is just hard and late night work, that is tough on a working guy.

Here is a collage of some shots that I've taken. Not Hubble or even quality amateur work, but they are mine.

It is, left to right, top to bottom:

Andromeda Galaxy
Mars
Orion Nebula
Pleiades

Here are is a link to some of my pics.

Nice pics, but we see a big photoshop job behind each of them.

There is lots of stacking and photoshop work, behind modern astro photos. Some of the photoshop plugins are pretty expensive. There is a lot of free software out there that makes some of the basic tasks a lot easier.

Planets are actually photographed with video cameras, and the 1000s of individual frames are stacked to get a single very high resolution image. It is pretty cool stuff, and some amazing stuff can be done for a reasonable entry level cost.

Deep sky stuff is stacked too, but requires long exposure, and some very expensive equipment.
