Esquire piece on Eddie Van Halen

http://www.esquire.com/features/musi...n-profile-0512

Great stuff in there. Very interesting how much control Wolfgang has. He is the one putting together the setlists. He picked the tracks for the album...

Thanks for that link!

I wish the author of the article knew better what his role is -- to write an article, for "readers", about a music legend. I have zero interest in the actual life, thoughts or interests of the author; he or she should be transparent and unintrusive. So, bad rating by me for this writer. And, for this style of writing in general.

Well, other than the fact that his cancer has come back. That's actually quite disturbing. It's good to see that his wife (I assume) has kicked his butt into switching to smokeless cigarettes. I had no idea he went through such a deep depression after quitting booze at the tail end of the first DLR reunion tour.

Reading about his stage fright was really enlightening. "But you're Eddie Van Halen!" It's all so effortless for him... but it's not.

"He's probably the greatest guitar engineer since Les Paul, makes his own line now called Wolfgang — named after his son and some other guy..."

This would have been a great interview and story if Jas Obrecht did it. It's one thing to be a fan, it's another to be so fawning as to lose any shred of objectivity. Geez.
