List things you've found in purchased guitar case.

When you buy a used guitar it is not uncommon to wander thru the case and find? What have you found?

Me> tickets to concerts, and condoms... combs and the odd string or two.

You>?

Cool idea for a thread!

Stuff I've actually found in second hand guitar cases: Polish cloths, extra strings, valve oil, picks, 9 volt batteries, extra cables (good ones too!), a bottle neck slide, a sack of weed, matches, cigarettes, Bic lighters, other related smoking paraphernalia, and a bunch of capos.

If I think of more I'll post back!

I've actually never bought a used guitar (!), so the strangest thing I've found in a case is that little packet that says "Do not eat."

I haven't found anything other than some broken strings.

I did find a "Do not eat" bag of silicone in a pack of turkey though. I DID NOT EAT the rest of that turkey.

Condoms? New and unopened I hope?

Been thru about a oil tanker full of guitars it seems when I was doing that and found the odd old set of strings, picks, sales receipts, some song lists, personal notes, business cards, dust, dirt, dog hair, phone numbers with "call for a good time" (just kidding)...but nothing that jumps out in my memory like a bunch of condoms would. That is a find!

Not in a case I bought, but I had a guy (in his 50's, accompanied by his 20+ year younger girlfriend) bring in a guitar for me to repair once in a brown paper bag - he'd just picked it up at a garage sale that morning according to him. When I pulled it out to restring it there were 30-40 sample boxes of viagra in the bottom of the bag (made my junior worker ring him to let him know he'd left some medication in the bottom of the bag - just in case he needed it that weekend!!)

Someone sold a Daisy Rock guitar and gig bag to the local music store.
The guitar went on the wall and as it was being sold to someone and his 13 year old daughter the sales guy went in the back to get the bag. He reached into the pocket and found 4 of the most vile porno DVD's in there.
I can only imagine the reaction when that gift got home had he not found them.

I don't recall ever finding anything note worthy in a case before. I did used to work in a tuxedo store. Part of my job was to clean out the pockets of the rental returns and take them to the cleaners. I was allowed to keep anything I found. I found money, pocketknives, lighters, matches that was about it.

Matches and a can of lighterfluid. Could it be?

Actually some change once. I considered it an instant rebate.

The usual... picks, cheapo cords, sales and repair receipts (which are apparently now worth something on Ebay)... Found a button once (the kind people used to pin to their denim jackets in the '70s) but can't recall what it said...

Found a nice TS pick stuck in the corner of a mandolin case.

Found a set of angled clippers in an Epiphone Les Paul gigbag. Eight years later, they're still my #1 workbench string clippers.

See! Daisy Rock players, and most girls by association are not as sweet as they seem!

When I worked at music store about 15 years ago, we had a guy come back to the store about an hour after trading in a guitar with a case. He was adamant that he get the case back, because he left something important in it. So I went and got the case back out of the storage room and handed it to him. I said, "I always check that kind of stuff - I didn't see anything in your case."

But right there on the counter, and popped open the "seal" of the case, below the place where you set the guitar, and reached his hand in, to pull out a bag of weed, which he quickly stuck in his pocket. He said, "thanks" and left.

Probably happens all the time.

Bought this bass case for my Jazz Bass at a blow out sale. Paid $25

It contained everything for a Custom Shop bass. I feel sorry for teh guy who never got his COA.

Never found any drugs, or rubbers, or porn. I have found pretty much everything else.

Metrnomes, tuners, sets of machine heads, pickups, straps, picks, strings, cables, capos. I got one used guitar case with seven capos in it. Seven. It was classical case. Still haven't figured that one out, but I'll never run out of capos...

Best find was in a Gibson Explorer case. Bought a '76 Explorer back in the mid 90's. Found two real deal PAF's and a T-top in the case. I have no idea what happened to the original Explorer pickups, it had DiMarzio's in it when I bought it.

I once bought a cheap amp used (Crate VC2112), and found a CS2, and an Alesis Nanoverb in the back of it when I got home. Score!

The Ibanez I bought used had a Blues lesson book in the case. That's the only thing I've found though.
