Any Sea Kayakers here ?

I'm a bit of a Sea Kayak fanatic.

I have a Mirage 580 (kevlar hull) along with a plastic Heritage Featherlite yak that I sometimes take on the local lake.

I have recently discovered the joy of adding a sail.

Any others ?

Not yet, but my ancestors perfected them. I plan to build one.

I'm keen to build one too.

A couple of years back I bought a set of plans from Chesapeake Light Crraft http://www.clcboats.com/ for a 17ft strip plank kayak.

One day I will get around to it.

Lounging in the Atlantic off North Carolina in an inflatable. Kinda like sea kayaking, only without the sea kayak...

Yes! We have a family fleet of affordable 10' plastic kayaks but we have a blast together. Lots of wooded streams in WI.

Lots of family fun. Each boat costs about as much as one pair of ski boots!

I saw a chain store ad this weekend for a 10' kayak and paddle for $169. The boats looked kind of like ours. That's good family fun.

I've never been on the ocean but I've kayaked in many many lakes and rivers around here and in northern Ontario. Our family of 5 each have our own kayak and thats how we spend a lot of our vacation time... paddling the waters. Its great fun and great exercise.

I also plan on build one or two sometime in the coming years. Haven't decided what kind yet, but it WILL happen.

I just bought myself a 10' Old Towne plastic yak to play around with last fall.
It's not up to the ocean fishing I'd love to do some day. But it's a start.
I'm an old fat guy. So I figured I'd better start out in some of the local lakes & creeks.
This summer I plan on taking it to the shore & exploring some of the creeks that run through the salt marshes & maybe trying the bays if it's a calm day.
I caught a show on NBC Sports Channel (Formerly Versus) called "Extreme Kayak Fishing".
These guys were catching marlin & tuna from a kayak. And i think that is totally badass.

Really nice boats you have there.

A guy I paddle with has the smaller Heritage (about same as yours) & I often wish I'd bought the same. He can pick it up with one hand, throw it in the back of his pickup and it does the job as well as my 14ft yak with less hassel.

I agree, it's great family fun and way of keeping fit.

I tend to paddle more on the lakes these days than open water/ocean.

Hobie Adventure Island, tandem version. I can kayak, use the foot paddles, or swing out the akas and anas and go for a real sail. Last time I was out, the coaches from the sailing school asked me where the motor was 'cuz they saw me moving right into the wind with the sheet out...

The sail looks cool. But I'm a big fat guy. And I need the exercise. So I'll pass on a sail for now.
It's surprizing how much room there is in a kayak.
I can't get my tackle box without rolling over unless I beach the boat so I can reach it.
But this clip my brother sent me demonstrates the impressive capacity of some older kayaks:

I have used 1 and 2 meter parafoil kites with a set up to depower them like newer big power kites used with wake boards. They pack super small and if they yank you the wrong way you release the back end and they fall down to the water. If you use a kite bar or straps you can steer them too. I have not seen any in production for sale but they may be out there.

A bunch of guys sailed Hobies down the east coast here a while back. Cool craft.

They were freaking out at one stage when a shark came up next to a guy and it was bigger than the kayak...
