I always liked the idea of getting a touring bus (with driver) and following the weather. No particular destination in mind.

Like most, I would also like to take care of my family and set up sensible investments for the future. I would like my son to know the value of work.

A nice plot of land to satisfy my fiance's desire for great danes (in addition to our boxer). I like the dog rescue / retirement home idea as well.

I would like to set up education funds for kids to learn guitar. Same goes for woodworking as I am amazed by the masterpieces I see built by fellow TDPRI folk.

I'd get a set of big chrome stacks and Supper Swampers for the old Dodge pickup.
Oh and get the radio fixed.
Sure would be nice if the radio worked.

I was thinking about this, and after throwing a little bit of money to my immediate family and me (like maybe 250k each), I'm not sure what else I'd do. Lock it away somewhere, maybe give it away? Buy a block downtown and turn it into an urban garden?

It could become an albatross really quickly, which is one reason why I don't play the lottery: I don't really want to win. So why am I posting in this thread? No idea.

I wouldn't do anything much differently than I do now. I'm pretty happy as is.
And for sure I wouldn't tell anybody.

The thing about having a lot of money that most people fail to realize is that it isn't the money...what you can buy that is important...it is the security. That is why you hear of millionaires that died, who lived in little apartments and lived very frugally. They get that stuff doesn't make you happy.
And you hear of lottery winners that totally go off the rails and die very soon.

Buy a house on Neptune in Encinitas/Leucadia

Pay off debts

Invest

Take a leave of absence at work to do some traveling

Have the piece of mind knowing that I could buy any guitar, amp or surfboard I want

Invest more

Set up a trust for my son

exactly...thats what most lottery winners fail to realize...this is your payday...its a one time thing...you wont be getting this again next year or anytime after...so be smart...dont go spending it like there is more coming later...if youre able to live on what you make now then set the winnings up to pay yourself a million a year or something

thats what a financial adviser is for...they will crunch the numbers so that you can give X amount away (friends...family...charity)...and have some money that you can go on a spending spree of sorts...but after thats over with you will still have enough there to set yourself up so that youll never have a money worry again...this way you can concentrate on other worries ha!

maybe they can give you 30 million to spent in lets say 30 days...but after the 30 days you cant have any assets...then you can get the 300 million...you wont spend it cause youll be sick and tired of spending money

hmmm sounds like a film eh

"set yourself up so that youll never have a money worry again..."

I think there are always money worries. even if the worries are "I have a lot of money and people know it."
